ingalls engine torque damper
ok so i was lookin around and i saw this. what exactly does it do? i mean it's obviously supposed to be a torque damper, but where does it bolt onto the engine and does it make a noticable improvent? would something like this be worth the time and money required to install it? of course it probably wouldn't make any sense for a street only car but what about for auto-x? road race? drag? i guess it just seems like if it was that great of an improvement i would have seen more of them by now but to my knowledge ingalls is the only one i've seen.
anyone here have one of these installed? what do you think of it?

bump!
maybe this should get posted in the rr/auto-x forum but then again maybe it should be in the drap forum but that's kinda why i'm asking anyways.
mods feel free to move this thread to where it goes (where ever that may be)

It just smoothes out the jerking of the engine during shifting. It IS good for a street car because its a more comfortable alternative to urethane engine mounts.
The Ingalls is just way too expensive to matter. Inserts are a better alternative than Ingalls. There are other cheaper brands as low as $60, but no telling if the shock is stiff and durable enough.

What ever gave you the idea to put this in the forum in the first place?

Come on guys, this is in NO-WAY a suspension related question. Just because it relates to a shock absorber, WTF?
Anyways, its a damper! What do you think it does? It dampes engine movement. The stupid thing about them is that they add a spring to it (and charge you for it). What the hell is that supposed to be for. The engine mounts already act as spirngs, and those are springs their trying to control. You certainly don't need to add any more spring...

well a damper's a damper whether it's on suspension or an engine.
I don't see a spring anywhere on that kit (unless it's inside the housing?)
Anyway, yeah this is probably not the best place to have this post, but since there are people who know dampers I thought that maybe someone has tested these on a shock dyno to see what the specs are (i.e. Lee, vtechvudu).
My interest in it is purly that of a cheapskate. I'm sure I could find a damper and make mounts for a fraction of the cost they're charging.

its not a liquid filled damper, its just a rubber bumpstop in there. these engine dampers have been talked about before in other forums.

im sure it does something to the effect that it claims, limits engine movement. up to you whether its worth $170. i guess the big benefit of it is that its adjustable.
i have found particular successwith my crx by just filling my front engine mount with extra rubber hose.

Sorry, I have seen some befor (japanese photos) where they have a coil over the shock body.

main reason i posted in the suspension forum was just that it seemed like the place to post. i didn't know anything about it, and it was a damper but i figured it was more likely for someone here to know something about it. but since i can't move it it hasn't been moved by me.
anyways, i guess it was a fairly good idea cause this is where i got responses. thank you for those. i think i have a better idea of why you would get one but i think whenever i get to it i'll go with the inserts until they are no longer as effective as i feel i need. (unlikely for the street car, but later...)
thanks for the info though. anymore would be welcome as well i'm really curious about these things for some reason?
