1988 CRX Si trivia
Alright, I'm exceptionally tired of dealing with the fact the 88 CRX has to be so much different than 89-91s.
Mainly what I am refering to is the suspension and how it's components ( or perhaps just select components ) are non compatible with those of Civic from 89-2001.
My question is would I be able to change out the front and rear supension to 90-93 Integra or any generation GSR suspension? Or do the fender well measurements for component holes (like where the tops go up to the frame and bolt in) actually differ too? I would think if you changed out everything, you could do it. Anyone have a clue?
Thanks Honda-Tech

I have an 88 Si and it really isn't all that different. I swapped my rear lca's to run the fork style shocks which are way more abundant than the eyelet type r style. The front shocks bolt up just fine, no real differences there. Other than that, I love my 88, it's the lightest and has that ever so useful door pocket.

I did the same thing. I have Tein Super Street Dampers, and I am using an '89 Civic Hatchback's LCA's.

So wait, do you have to change the front LCAs to upgrade to a shock and or coil over setup up front that is not specifically intended for an 88? I only noticed all of this after seeing that Tein makes a suspension that's spefic to 88 CRXs and they claim is only compatible with 88s, and the 89-91s they make will not work. I can understand doing that because of the rear LCAs, but they shouldn't lie to you and make you buy a specific set for up front when they could just sell you the front kit for any year. Just do something special for the rear where it's needed, ya know what I mean?

Its only the rear that is different.

hey i got an 88 also and it do suck................but i swap it to an 91...front and back..and if you ever plan on doing that try to find rear disc its looks better....
I have an 88 and I have no problems what-so-ever finding anything I need. Only thing different is the rear LCA's, but just about every company has an application for it. The front are completely interchangable (even though i think 90-91 has differnt upper ball joints, but that doesnt change the overall geometry). As far as disks, they might look a little better, but there really isn't too much of an advantage in performance (if any at all).

Yeah, if anyone *really* hates their '88 Si, they can always give it to me.
I loved mine (silver). To this day I still don't have a freaking clue what possessed me and made me agree to sell it back to the previous owner. Even as I was taking to to him, I was telling myself "This is a big mistake." I was regretting it before the car was even gone!
Don't cry for me; I've got plenty enough CRXs, but a '91 DX or a '90 Si just aren't the same. There was just something so...*right*... with the '88 Si. It was only minimally heavier (about 54 lbs, I believe) than my '87 Si, it had seatbelts where they're *supposed* to be, instead of on the doors, and it had the real CRX rear suspension that Honda intended it to have (and that the rest of the world kept throughout the CRX's model run).
Nothing wrong with the later ones, of course. Well, maybe a *couple* things... (see above)

Well, I've already done the rear disc brake conversion from a 91 CRX Si, but now I am looking to convert the whole suspension to have huge front and rear brakes ( discs all the way around ) and of course to upgrade the rest of my suspension.
I was just worried about certain companies not knowing\making any parts for the 88 Si. But that doesn't really matter because I am putting in Integra knuckles and shocks and springs and etc etc...
90-93 Integra **** will convert over into the 88 CRX right? I mean, it does in all 88-91 Civics and I know it does in 89-91 CRXs.
What all would I have to change? For the front it would be, Knuckles\spindles, Upper balljoins, Lowers, the brakes, shocks and springs, front sway bar? Or is there more? And for the rears it's just the trailing arms, sway\tie bars ( i dunno what the **** to call em :-P ) shocks and springs and what else?

i have a 88 si and a 89 hf and they both rock. I wonder why everyone hates on drum brakes. They are lighter and easy to work on. Disc are easy to. Just work on drums for a whle and its a breeze to do. I use to hate drums but now i dont mind them i cand do it just as fast as disc brakes.
Alright, well can I convert to a 90-93 Integra suspension (knuckles and all) like you can in any other EF in my 88? I want bigger brakes and a beefier suspension. I take it the consensus is that the only true difference about the 88 suspension is the rear LCAs, so I assume you'd be able to do it right?
