Default Filling my NOS tanks

I just filled (2) 10 pound NOS tanks by a claimed NOS dealer and he put 5.5 lbs in one tank and 5 lbs in the other. He said that is the most he can put in. Is this true or am I getting the shaft?

i never heard that either..

unless you had some left over (nitrous left in the bottle) .. or for some reason the bottle was warm (higher pressures) it won't accept anymore content.

a luke warm bottle empty might take 8LBS @ 1200 PSI (guessing.)

if a HOT bottle at 1200 PSI might only take 6LBS.

i usually opened the valve, and stuck it in the fridge, or frezzer, and had it filled. sometimes you can get over 10 LBS of N20 in a 10 lb bottle.

and i used a bottle heater to get 1200 PSI out of damn near empty bottles. talk to nitrous users.. they'll give you the whole scoop.

did he say he wasn't allowed to or that it wouldn't fit?

Did he charge you for the full 10?

He said that 5 lbs in each tank is all that would fit, and only charged me for what he filled. This is the way he filled my tanks: he freezed my two tanks over night and then fills them from a tall metal tank. Is this the way you fill NOS tanks or is this guy not the real deal? Sort of new at this, thanks.

some places will only fill up to a certin PSI... once you make 1400 PSI.. they stop, regaurdless of how much actuall content is in the bottle.

now the way your reffering to, the huge tank, and filling yours that way is gravity feed. it works, but really sucks when the big tank starts to empty out.

the place i went to, had a really nice re-fill station, they used a pump and a scale. he would put the bottle on a scale, and fill it to 1400 PSI.. whatever LB of content that was. sometimes it was 12 lbs.. sometimes 10.. depends on how hot the N20 that was in the refill station was, and depended on how fast the content changed temps in my bottle.

just a tid bit. heat expands.. and cold contracts. heat causes higher pressures. cold contect causes lower pressures. this is why some people user bottle heaters, that way you get a consistant PSI all the time.. this is a MUST when using nitrous. if you tune your car on a 80 shot at 900 PSI.. and then heat your bottle up to 1200 PSI and run that same 80 shot.. i can garenttee your gunna get a bigger shot comming out of those foggers. more like a 90-95 shot.

so when refilling a bottle, if they gravity feed (no pumps) they're only gunna fill to a certine pressure. if they're at 1200, or less... (depends on whats in the filler tank) they just might only be able to get 5 LBS in YOUR bottle.

look around, plenty of places refill nitrous.. and the best way is a pump..
