Need Advice on Next Mod Options
OK, I am looking to you guys for some advice on my next mods.
Goal: ~500-525WHP on pump 93 gas; daily driven and will not see 500 but every once and a while
Current Setup:
Stock B18B
T3/T4 ball bearing .57 trim, .63 exhaust, .50 a/r
35mm wastegate
RC 750cc injectors
Uberdata
Techedge WB
Custom 3" straight back exhaust
AVC-R
Quaife LSD
ACT XXR6 clutch/pressure plate
ACT ACT Prolite flywheel
24X12X3 Intercooler
Next Mods:
Rods/Pistons (likely Eagle and CP)
Block brace
Possible Mods:
Cams
Valve springs/retainers
Port & Polish Head
New intake manifold
Sleeves
Since I will be low on funds after the rods & pistons I would like to get away with not getting anything in the possible mods section. But I know that the LS does not flow very well on the top end and 500 whp is cutting it real close on stock sleeves (but I should be able to get this tuned very well and the larger intercooler should help with detonation... maybe water injection for higher boost).
My question to you guys is what if any of the possible mods should I get and am i missing anything else?
Thanks!

Pistons should definately be in your future, the stock slugs may not take 500 HP for long. But to make your stock components survive with the least amount of money, you need to invest in some machining.
The intake manifold could be hand-ported or extrude-honed, and the head should see some porting, but more importantly, a increase in chamber cc to decrease static compression. You can decrease static compression significantly without having to use dished pistons or a thicker gasket. (Sharp edges make detonation more likely)
The rods can be made significantly "stronger" by polishing them.

I am definately going to be getting new rods and pistons. How about the turbo... think it can push 500+? Do i need a larger compressor housing.. say .60?
Bigger compressor housing? Try a fully ported VTEC head, and a huge turbo if you want to come close to hitting 500 WHP on pump gas. I don't think anyone has pushed a 57 trim to 500 WHP period, nevermind on pump gas.

a new garrett 57 trim is only efficient to 480 crank hp. the older turbonetics only support like 450-475crank hp

johncipa,
damn, i'm from Melbourne and I sure haven't seen your car around. Where in Melbourne are you, beachside, west, central? I know some guys that can help you out, but you are going to need to do some serious, serious work before getting to 500 whp I can sure tell you that. Sleeved, port & polish head, fully built head and bottom end, probably bore to 2.0L and more.
I know a guy from Melb Village that had a 500+ whp honda beast but then he had two kids one after another and hasn't had a fast or nice car since, whoops!, but he is a mechanic and he can help. I also know another guy who is a mechanic with a sleeved gs-r who is from the area but he is away most of the time at college now. It sucks he is away b/c he is the man when it comes to honda's: welder, mechanic, tuner and he will rip open a tranny. You are going to need do everything you and I mentioned and more.
How do 750's run on low boost, damn, I can't imagine. I know some other people in the area that have 500+ hp cars but that is another league you are talking about. I am down in the 3-400 hp class, haha..
When you are going for those big numbers, tuning is everything (if you didn't know that already). You will need to datalog with your techedge if you can, and I have a friend that can probably tune your car when the time comes. Or you can do what I guess everybody else does and go to a big deal shop to have it done. But first you will need the set-up to handle it, so get those parts you know you will need. After that home boy, all it looks like you will need is a really good tune.
Also, do you plan on staying non-vtec? Because I thought I was the only guy in Melbourne with a turbo non-vtec? I am in the works of doing a pretty major rebuild myself. New P & P fully built LS head, turbo cams, and a lower end build up too but I do not plan on boosting over 15 lbs, yet.. I have to go but send me an IM if you are interested in chatting more about your build, and I will see what I can do for you. Good luck.
If you are wanting numbers like that then you should look at getting you block sleeved. None of this other will matter when you crack a sleeve. You'll end up spending twice as much. Do it right the first time. http://www.erlperformance.com
Hey RaNMaN. Nice to see someone else from the home town. I just turboed by car about half a year ago. I live in central melbourne near Whicham road and Pineada causeway. It is a blue (some may call it "teal") 95 LS. I'll IM ya.
The 750's run fine. I've got her tunned a little using my buddy's wideband so the A/F is close. I need to get my DIY techedge running to nail it. I am using a chipped P06 on uberdata and I am trying to nail out that pesky idle surge.
I did all my own work... installed the chipped the ECU, turbo, exhaust, clutch... event cracked open the tranny and put in the Quife. It was a bit challenging but fun (all two days of it).
Maybe my best bet is LS/VTEC. I have been looking around and it does not look like too much work.
I am planning on putting in some new rods and pistons in about three months so that may be a good time to slap on a new head... also looking at a larger compressor housing and exhaust housing. Don't think I'll upgrade the wheel larger than 57trim... I'll just see what it can push. I won't need much more than that.
I am still tossing around the sleeve/no sleeve deal. I think the stock LS sleves should handle 12 psi daily and 20psi at the track every blue moon don't you think? I don't plan on much overbore, maybe .01 just to resurface the walls.

I picked up a used GSR head and I just sent my block into get sleeved (Darton MID) and assembled with CP pistons and Eagle rods. Can't wait to put it all back together...
May I ask where you bought your turbo from and how much you paid for it. Those are the exact specs I have been looking for for my future turbo set-up.
The turbo I have now is an el-cheapo from SSAutochrome... you can see the prices on-line. My engine is still at the machine shop getting buit. I ended up getting the Darton MID sleeves which I am booring to 85mm with CP 9.1 pistons and Eagle Rods.
I am now looking to upgrade my turbo... trying to decide between a GT35R and T3/T67. I figured since I went ahead and sleeved it I would up my HP goal.

I ended up getting a T3/T67. Just got my built bottom end back from the shop and I should get my head in Friday. Got some ITR cams to throw in it with a Edlebrock intake. Hopefully I'll be able to fire it up this weekend.
I do need a larger wastegate. I will have to work that into my manifold somehow... dosn't the manifold limit the wastegate size or can you just weld in a larger flange?
I have sleeved by block with Darton Mids and have a GSR head.
