Default Friend revved 400 past redline

My friend was driving my car around and he went up to 7400 rpms. My car (d16y8) redlines at 7k. I listened and didnt hear anything mechanical coming from the engine.

Have any of you revved that far past redline and if so, what happened?

Also some of you may suggest getting a compression check done? Can I just rent something from Autozone to do that myself.

Thanks for the help,
-azn

step one, smack your friend for being a dumbass.

second, how does your car rev to 7400? isnt the rev limit 7200(if not right at 7000)? ive bounced off my rev limited a small handful of times since i've had my car... and its still going strong. if its not continuous abuse, or prolonged, i would think its ok.

i know other people will have more technical and/or in-depth analysis.

yeah no technical advice here, and to get compression checked you have to bring it to a shop, and its a pretty penny. The rev limiter on mine d16y8 is about 7400-7500 and ive bounded it many a times, and still going strong.....you just cant kill a honda motor

stock tachs are off about 200-400 rpm. it's more off the higher you get. ie: stock tach says 4500, really, you might be 4300. stock tach says 7400, you might be at 7000.

You don't have to take it to a shop to get the comp. checked. You need a gauge that you may be able to rent or borrow from autozone or the like. There are assloads of topics on doing a compression check. Search in the archives if it doesn't come up in recent topics.

You will be fine. But just tell your friend that he blew your motor and that he has to by you a b16 now.

Ever seen that movie where they take a junk 1.5 and take the header off, shoot bananas out the head of it. Proceed to do brakestands till they run out of oil, then pour WATER into the engine and continue to beat the **** out of it. After holding the car at rev-limiter for a good 5 minutes, it finally throws a ******* rod. But then it starts right back up and they drive it away.

Those heads have *****. The only reason they have rev limiters is to give the other car manufacturers a chance.

Bouncing off the rev limiter is my favorite sound, especially when I am running open downpipe. I do it everytime I drive my car and I use the rev limiter for launch control at the track.

honda tachometers tend to read about 200 rpms more than what it acutally is. my y8 is supposed to redline at 7000 on the dot, but it doesn't hit the fuel cut until about 7250.

i downshifted to second once going a little too fast and it spun up to about 8000 or so and it's fine.

ive never really gotten it up to the rev limiter on my y8 but i shift it as soon as it hits about 7150-7200...so i really dont know much about how high it'll go before the limiter kicks in

yeah very nice noise, its nice to know that your motot isnt gonna blow, and yeah man i hate those people that spend all that money on their car and never really drive it, i mean you gotta try to be safe and all, but whats the point? wheres the fun? my honda may be slower than many cars, but im sure i have a **** load more fun in it than most people do in there turbo........
