Default Just what is JDM these days?

this is really a simple question, that has my roommate really worked up.
I am not the biggest JDM fan out there because of all the JDM style stuff out there. I am also not a big bling-bling fan and that is what it has become. The biggest thing that got it going was that I did not think that Spoon Sports parts are JDM anymore since SPOON imports there own stuff, and market there items here in the states. I thought JDM items where things that where only sold in Japan. Another company would be NISMO, you can buy there stuff at the Nissan dealership, so are there parts no longer JDM as well? If you want to bash, you can not say anything worse then my roommate(NUB96EK) has already said to my face. Thanks and I can not wait to see what has to be said about this one.

I suppose technically JDM only means it was sold in their market. A toothbrush sold in Tokyo is a JDM Toothbrush. So saying a Japanese company that once was only JDM now imports to the US domestic market is no longer JDM is logical, I guess.

I still consider things that were only sold in japan and have to be personally imported or purchased second hand here, JDM. Although I would still consider Spoon JDM even though you they import S2000 stuff here in the states now. It's a gray area, but one thing's for sure

It doesn't belong in this forum this post should be moved to General Discussion.

You may get more helpful responses in the general discussion and debate area dude.

I think when one says "JDM" they are usually referring to a piece or model that originated in Japan. That could mean a set of Japanese domestic market S14 headlamps, or maybe an entire Japanese domestic model S14 itself. I dunno...

Granted Nismo sells stuff in the states now, but I don't think that Nismo itself claims to be JDM at the dealers. It is viewed as a supplier of options, is it not? I can see where you are going with Spoon however.

You said that "I thought JDM items where things that where only sold in Japan." Yeah I guess that the true Japanese market stuff would be. But if something can be had in the states only through importing from Japan, I would still consider those items to be "JDM."
