I've got a question guys, someone is telling me that a copper radiator is more efficient than a aluminium one.

have anyone of you ever heard or tried this out?

 

yea copper transfer heat far better than alum, except is very weak. In an automotive, and the pure cost alone it's just not worth it.

 

Even though copper handles heat a bit better than aluminum, its MUCH heavier. I would stick with aluminum for sure. With a radiator like a Fulidyne or Koyo race, you will never have cooling problems.

 

what about silver it transfers heat even better

 

Copper does have a better heat rejection than aluminum. For the most part a copper radiator core is less efficient than an aluminum core. Due to the manufacturing process of the cores. A tube in an aluminum core can be much thinner than than a copper tube. The thicker tube in the copper core negates the better heat rejection of the copper. Once carbon foam core comes down in price it will be the new hot ticket.

i had a custom 3 core copper radiator made for my teg, temp gauge stays on the bar right below the half mark. Oh a btw this thing is only like 10 inches wide. i'll grab pics in a few

I asked cause I have heard of a company that makes copper radiators for a great price.
I was thinking about ordering a aluminium one but It's gonna cost me about 600 USD incl. world wide shipping. Other wise I would buy a aluminium one if I was from USA.

i dont even spend that kind of money on a turbo!

 

i think it was like 250ish. Local shop had a guy come out and get all the demensions and such, made it...... and got it to me in alike a week

250 thats crazy....no radiator should cost more than a 100 bucks...unless its all aluminum!

250 isn;t bad for a custom 3 core radiator. I would expect to pay anything less than 150 unless its a junk oem plastic endtank'd unit

 

due to metallurgy properties (dont know if thats the right word) it should be known that most new cars use aluminum radiators. but copper heater cores.
Why???
copper holds heats.
its very good at transferring heat to itself. ie from one end of copper to the other.
aluminum rejects heats.
i guess copper could be said to just be prone to heat soak.
IE u dont want ur custom a/w after coolers heat axchanger to be made from copper.

you are very right copper does transfer heat better than aluminum. and aluminum rejects heat when compared to copper thats why copper transfers heat to the air better in the cars heater core. if more heat car be exchanged to the metal than more heat can be exchanged to the air. copper is a better heat exchanger than aluminum.

 

Wow, 3 month old thread brought back from the dead. I just thought I'd comment on that 11 inch radiator.
When I had my CRX the A/C fan got bent some how and was rubbing against the radiator when it clicked on, naturally it sprung a leak. It was an all metal two core radiator, made of copper. Anyways, my dad has the brilliant idea of just cutting it in half and sodering two chunks of copper on the end tanks since he knew I wanted a half size radiator anyways. It worked great Just wanted to throw that idea out there for your guys.

 

you guys probally arnt even having any cooling problems, are you, what is wrong with a stock one or a duel core honda rad?
