Default How much for labor to change strut/shock on rear 2 / all 4?

Not really on a honda/acura, but on a 95 corolla.

My beater has the rear 2 blown/almost blown and need replacement. Seems complicate since I cannot see the cover to the strut cover as my teg. Asked a shop they quote $800 parts and labor and I say to hell with it (car only worth 3k). I know the labor may be more than the teg but not that much.

So how much is it going to cost me? Anyone done it before and is it hard?

Thanks.

That's probably the going rate. Similar thing happened to a co-worker. They wanted $700 to replace two struts, broken springs (yes really), and strut mounts. We ended up buying shocks from AutoZone, Springs from the dealer and did it for ~$200 on his garage floor.

Figure out how to DIY and you can save a lot of money.

You'll save lots of money doing it yourself. It shouldn't be that hard with the proper tools. I would do some research on that car, a haymes manual would be nice, and take your time going step by step. Plus you have that personal satisfaction that you did it yourself!

So, from what I know, you need spring compressor, torque wrench, rachet. Do I need any non-common tools? I am going to DIY as you guys recommended, after all I have done most of the maintanence plus a thermostat change, so it should not be too much harder right?

What else should I replace along the way? Like strut mount?

Watch out for the bolts on the rear LCAs. The tend to rust to the inside of the bushings, and then the heads break off when you try to remove them. Soak them w/ PB-Blaster & let em sit for a while. If they break, you either have to get them seperated professionally, or buy new LCAs. Either way, reassemble with new bolts and anit-seize on the non threaded portions. Then it won't happen again.

Good luck...
