Help! axle won't go back in!!!
i installed a new tranny on my friends integra, i got everything put back together but the passenger side axel. i shove it and wiggle it and everything! it goes in like half way but not enough so that the axel would hit the seal. anyone got any ideas???
I've run into the same problem before. You just gotta pull it out and try again. Wiggle, jiggle, shove, and push like crazy. You'll get there eventually.
that happened to me a few times when i worked for honda, the best way i found was to put the other side of the axle in the hub and hammer it in with the hub, that is the way all the old timers showed me
Or if you take the control arm with the axle attahced to it. you'll notice that you can slide the axle half way then you 'll notice that oyu can move back and forth (towards and away) from the trans. Lift the control arm until axle straightens then rock back and snap forwardand the axle should pop in. It may take a couple of times.

look at the teeth at the end of the axle, with all that hammering and jiggling trying to get it in I can almost guarantee that you damaged the teeth on the end and thats why its not going in.
if you damaged them slightly you can use a file and file it back to clean out the grooves and i bet it will slip right in. just don't go too crazy with the file!!!!

I doubt the threads are damaged, I always have to use a mallet. Just hit the end with some moderate force and it should go it. The snap ring is whats holding you back. My first swap did the same thing, this one I knew better, used the mallet and it went right in.
Don't hit it with all your force though, you'll end up damaging the joint, but hit it enough to get it in.

Make the axle parallel to the ground and it will just slide it in.
The tolerances on the shaft to the hole are so tight, if you do not get it in there just right it will not go in.
Like someone said before, jack up the brake rotor assy, then you can make the axle parallel to the ground and then it will be a breeze.

he's says he's been trying it for hours....
and with all that wiggling and hammering and i can almost guarantee some heavy duty pushing on it, it would be worth checking the teeth. i've seen it happen on many different cars when installing axles if its not lined up and it hits the snap ring at the wrong angle.

I had to replace a snap ring once to get the axle to go in. You could try that. I used an the snap ring off the axle I was replacing & it poped right in. Since your just putting your axles back in, you could try getting a new snap ring at the parts store, or at honda...
Of course he should check it, but I spent a whole day trying to jam mine into a warped hub (yea, I don't know how it happened...I just bought another one). The axle wasn't even close to giving up, I got them to replace it, cause I bullshitted saying it was the wrong one, I abused the hell out of it and didn't want it on my car after that

hahah naw i got it in i didnt damage it! i told you i checked the axle many times and it was perfect, and i never hammered it, only shoved it. well i got it in now a lot of pain but got it hahaha.
