new to honda... simple question
ive been into the scene for a while although it was with a mazda. i recently (3 days ago) came across a 96 civic HB. real awesome deal... kozi lightweight racing wheels, full wide body molded, lambo's, slammed 4" with full skunk2 suspension, etc. etc. anyway it has no motor. he gave me the bottom end of the stock motor (d16y7) although i know the motor was beat pretty bad before it was taken out. i would like to get a stock motor (for now
) mostly just so i can get it out of the garage!! later on i may do another swap but for now i need to know the best (cheapest) place to find a d16y7 on the east coast (pennsylvania)? i just need something fairly reliable kinda low mileage for now. thanks for reading guys!

You're going to get A LOT of people that are gonna tell you to get rid of the body kit and lambo doors, but if you like them keep them.
You can try a local junkyard for an engine but you can't tell if it runs. There are some Web Sitesthat sell them and are used by a large majority of the members here. A couple are http://www.hmotorsonline.com, http://www.sohfast.com, and http://www.importautosalvage.com

In my opinion, what you should do is get a d16y8. Its close to stock but you'll still have a tad of performance... And in the end if you decide to stay with SOHC you'll be better off. Build the internals, add a turbo and boost your way past 250 whp.

D16Y8... you'll be able to find them just as easily as the y7, probably cost around the same too... more performance over the y7, simple.
Regardless of what you do with the lambo's and the widebody kit, or which engine you put in there, the best place I found to search for used engines is - http://www.car-part.com
Found my Ford Zetec in there with 55K on it for $375. It gives you a search in your local area of all salvage yards.
Good luck with the car, and post some pics when you get them.

first off.... wow, didnt think anyone would respond to this but this seems to be a HUGE forum!! im excited haha! another thing that site (www.car-part.com) was great found SOO much stuff in my area its crazy! last... i will post pics once i get everything looking a little better, i need to finish some body work yet (this weekend prolly) and primer the areas i do, after that i will get some pics up. just to clear it up for me... the d16y8 is the ex model of the 96-00 SOHC vtech? correct? and will everything line up properly? b/c i need to stay away from excess work at this point in time (i.e. motor mounts re-wiring the harness all that stuff)? im looking for pretty much a bolt right in and tune everything so i can get it on the street. thank for everyones help!
one other question i had was on the site (car-part.com) if you choose civic (96) it has 3 motor types...
(1.6L, 4 cyl, SOHC), base (VIN "6" 6th digit)
(1.6L, 4 cyl, SOHC), VTEC (VIN "8" 6th digit)
(1.6L, 4 cyl, SOHC), VTEC-E (VIN "7" 6th digit)
1st one im guessing is the d16y7
2nd d16y8?
what the hell is vtec-e?
