Default What is the stock cargo cover "SUPPOSED" to look like?

It's seems like every cover I have seen is in two pieces....Is it supposed to be like this or have the seams just split?

There is the portion towards the front of the car the most that rises vertically. The there is a seem and the cover begins to extend horizontally towards the back of the car. Then...there is another seem (this is where mine is seperated) at which this portion can fold forward.

If this is supposed to all be one piece...does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it while retaining the ability to fold the cover forward?

Yeah, it's a crx hatch.

To me, it just seems busted or something. Cause I'll try to fold the rear part back and it'll fall off the clips and stuff, and drop right to the floor. Somethigns not right.

the way it was designed, there really was no hard joint. it was just joined by the fabric, which eventually rips apart. its really a poor design. when i got my latest crx, i was happy the cover was still in one piece, but that didnt last very long until it also ripped.

Thats what I thought.

Anyone got an easy ways to remedy this? I thought about putting small hinge-type things on the bottome of the cover.

Mine hasn't detached completely yet, but it's getting close. I was planning to buy some small hinges from Home Depot or something and bolt them on there to keep it together. I'd make sure to use big washers on the opposite side so the bolts don't rip through the cardboard.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I figured would have to be done. Too bad there isn't a better less ghetto way to do it. Everytime I add a part to my car from home depot i cringe.

look at the bottom of the page. perhaps this would suffice. polypropylene comes in black. would look less ghetto than rivets or screws or bolts showing. if i cared, i would just order this.

for the link. I just trashed my interior some time ago and decided to make my own. I started the project but never finished. I could never really decide on what kind of hinge to use. I was going to upholster the two pieces together as it was originally.

Have any suggestions for the two left and right "locking" pieces on the vertical section?

a friend of mine made a cargo cover out of mdf & that charcoal carpeting that people use for sub boxes. he hinged it w/ a paino hinge. It's much heavier than stock, but seems to work well.

ugh, it ended up costing me $20 because its 6 feet long and despite it being plastic which could be flexible and packaged as a coil, its shipped as a 6 foot long stick! so UPS charges oversized fees ($8 from cerritos to redondo beach, 30 minutes away!) and even Mcmaster charges an extra $5 conveyor fee for the extra handling.

obviously had i known this, i would have just picked it up or not even ordered it online... especially when i had called and was told shipping was going to be just $4!

oh well. $20, it better be good...

I went to the local fabric store and found a type of iron-on patch that comes in a 6"x15" sheet for 99cents. I bought three, and had enough material to cover the top and bottom of the joint. The patch is a cloth that is almost the same color as the felt on the cover, just not nappy. I also used a patch of this to mend the side-bolster tear in my seat. Very cheap and effective.

My stock cover isn't broken. Here are some pics.

That plastic hinge is interesting. I suppose if it ever tears I'll try that out.
