DEBATING on going to EXPO 5
EDIT: nevermind, 21 hour drive, 1400 miles roughly each way
i dont think i can afford new pads, tires, 2 oil changes, 1 before and after event, gas, tolls, hotel, rotors (mine are old), event and everything else i need to fix my car before may....god damn 21 hours, hmm, someone start convincing me or something, this isnt looking good
ok, well ive been debating for like 2 months
i have a few questions and concerns that i didnt find from searching
and if i decide to go, ill just paypal my 315
questions and concerns:
1. can a friend ride in the car with me? if so, what does it cost for him
2. can i get away with using stock calipers, rotors and only upgraded front pads?
rotors and calipers are originals with 57k on them.
3. who else is going from the New England area?
4. are you guys camping or staying in a hotel over night? what hotel? so on?
5. do i need any kind of racing equipment of any kind?
i need like a full run down of this whole event or something, lol
sorry, im a total newb to the expo and to the track
any info would be greatly appreciated, i really would like to take the R to expo 5
but im kind of not sure right now, lets hear some feedback
lookin into map quest to see how sucky a drive from NH to Iowa would be...

Ok, first use your head.
If there is something you feel needs to be replaced to drive on the street then you should replace it before you track your caR.
If your pads are worn, then you can upgrade them. This is what I did before Expo 4. My oem pads were fried so I called Andy @ Cobalt Friction and got a set of Axxis Ultimates pads front and rear on the recommendation from Rob (Bbasso).
I needed a brake, motor, tranny, and coolant flush, so I did it while I put my new pads on.
The Expo is a driving school and it sounds like it's your first one too. My only recommendation would be to upgrade your brake fluid and brake pads. If you need new rotors, then get them. If not you can always have your current rotors re-surfaced.
On a side note, me and quite a few of NY, NJ, CT, and PA guys are rolling also. You can just meet up with us and drive in our caravan.
Hope to see you at Expo

Also, the hotels, camping etc etc will be discussed when we know we're having an Expo.
Last year everyone seemed to go halfs or quarters on rooms to keep costs down. People are also planning on camping at the track.
Expo's going to be fun. If you can come, you should.

First of all, calculate how much it will cost you. Estimate miles per gallon to figure out gas costs. You can look up toll amounts on the internet. Don't count parts and services you would be doing anyway, even if you weren't going to the event; for example, if you change oil every 3K miles, only one oil change is part of the cost of going, not two.
Then compare the total cost you come up with against the amount of fun you will have - which is HUGE. Then decide whether HUGE FUN is worth it. (For most of us, it is.)

If he's driving in the track event, it will cost him the same amount it costs you. (The registration fee is PER DRIVER, so it's twice as much for two drivers as for one.) If he's only going with you for the ride, and not driving on the track, he will only need to pay for the banquet.

Yes, absolutely.
For that matter, if you have OEM pads and they have plenty of pad material on them, I would recommend that you use those on the track. (I have, and they're fine.) It's always a good idea to bring an extra set with you, though, just in case. And that's not an Expo-related expense; you'll use them anyway, sooner or later.

you get what you pay for
and if you compare to shop's prices, they're reasonable. if i were you, just ask a friend who has a motorcycle for a loaner helmet, or maybe see if you can borrow something off someone for the weekend.
see ya there

If I'm going with my FAMILY SEDAN, then you're definitely going with your Type-R.
Save up money, get the stuff done, and roll out.
I also have to get a lot of stuff done still -- upgrade rotors/pads (factory, although replaced only 7,000 miles ago), wheels/tires, etc.
