Default Overheating

ok i have a 88 dx hatch with a d16a6 swap and it overheats,i changed the thermo and still overheats i looked in the archived articles and was just wondering if anyone could give me another suggestion.i think there is air trapped in there somewhere when i let it sit it heats to normal temp and i can drive it for a little while then it will start overheating when it doesnt overheat i have heat from my vents but when it overheats i get cold and and the top hose is hot and the bottom is cold..any suggestions would be nice....thanks

sounds like a headgasket take it to a shop and do a leak down test and have them remove the rad cap and if the coolant and water flows out of the top you have a blown headgasket

Radiator could be clogged or you might have to replace your radiator cap. the spring rate on it might be weak?? Or if you want to check if the head gasket is blown, check your dip stick and see if you have coolant mixing(chocolate flavor)or if you run your motor to operating temp and slowly remove the radiator cap and you see alot of bubbling, you probably got a blown head gasket. hope this helps. good luck.
