I live less than a mile away from where you're visiting... (assuming you mean Buckhead area).
I've lived all over the country, but I love it here most of all.

Atlanta is a great place to live IMHO. I love it here, other that the traffic (which is absolute ****).
There is always something going on, most people are nice, job market is good, cost of living is not TOO high (comparatively). A lot of car enthusiasts around...always good bands playing too.
KenE that sounds like he is near Perimeter mall/Ashford Dunwoody, not Buckhead

ATL - you want to live on the north side (sorry Len)
Cost of living is pretty low, housing is relatively cheap, traffic is horrendous for a city this size (the interstates are a bottleneck by design), oh and the food sucks here.

Oops! I didn't see the "Hammond" part.....
The Chinese food isn't the best, but there is quite a diversity of ethnic foods... Mmmm!
Indian is off the chain, y0!

What's your budget?
Just like any big city, your budget will dictate where you live. Cost of living is on-par with any other big cities w/ 1+ million people. Some inexpensive... some very expensive.
Also, depending on your life style, you'll narrow it down to only a few selective spots.
Last but not least, if you work in the downtown area, you shouldn't live more than 20-30 miles out in the 'burbs. Traffic sucks nuts in every direction (I-20, I-75, I-85, GA400, GA316, etc.)
PM me if you want more details.

you would be living near RJ.. take that however you want..
seriously though, Atlanta is a decent place.. I wouldn't want to live there, but it was nice to visit..

Like others said, it depends on your budget. You can find Apt cheap in the city but for a house and you will pay. I live in some nice old Apts built in the 40's that they remodeled. My rent is 825. for a two bedroom and free DSL and Basic cable. Hey Ken, if you read this I am still planning to get those seats, I had some drama with my car, some guy in a SUV backed into me so my car is in the bodyshop. I will call you soon.
Staying around the King/Queen building area. actually its right it front of me...
so far i like the scenery, i have to make some decisions back in dallas tommorow afternoon
i like what i can see but i have to see if it is all worth it.

ATL is definitely better than Dallas. I'll say that much. Within 4 hour driving distance from ATL, you can get to really cool places... and, within 10 hour drive, you can pretty much get to any place on the eastcoast. And, there's whole lot more to do on the eastcoast than in Texas & southern states.
I had a great time when i visited, seemed like lots to see.
The people are great. Shane, Len, Ken, and Shawn make great hosts.
Good luck whatever ya do.

I'm sorry to hear about your car man. Get the pimpmobile running again.
Migs, I hope you'll enjoy it here. I love it here, but I know others do not.
I can't see myself living in Cali anymore, and although my family lives in Richardson, TX area - I can't see moving there either. I like visiting NYC, but don't want to live there.
ATL is cheap to live in - gas is cheap, and lots of hot girls all around.
You should see my swimming pool at the apt in summertime... it's like ****** girls gone wild.

I was born here and I say it is a good place to buy a house and live. Traffic sucks bad but since I know all of the back roads it isn't as bad. Cost of living is starting to go up at a dramatic rate though. A house in Sandy Springs used to cost less than $150,000 for a 3 bed/2 bath, now that same house is at least $225-250. Too many people are moving here for some odd reason. I guess it is mostly rural people moving to the city to get better jobs. I give Atl a rate of 9 out of 10.
I like living here pretty good. I live in north east Ga and living is fairly cheap. I just bought my house less than a year ago for $120k brand new 3/2, pretty nice, at least thats what I think. Traffic is not as bad up here as well.
Atlanta is cool. The King/Queen is Sandy Springs area, which is a nice area to live and work.
* Cost of living is low.
* Good diversity of food/culture. If you are Korean, Atlanta has tons of stuff.
* Traffic can suck, so try to live close to work if you can. GA-400 is one of the worst as lots of pople live up north and drive south to work.
* If you are into racing, there are 7+ race tracks within 2-7hrs drive. SEDIV SCCA is one of biggest regions in SCCA. There is NASA-VA and NASA-SE as well. Atlanta Auto-X is huge.

Hey, not to steal your thread, but I'll be moving to ATL when I get back from Iraq. I should be home next month or so. I'll be looking to buy a house in the Cobb area. I'm stationed at Fort Hood, TX right now. Ken I'm not sure If you remember me and my dad hanging out with you maybe like 2 June's ago.
