Question about an unpainted fender??? Pls help
What up,
I just got my car fixed! And i installed a new OEM fender and bumper that are unpainted..I'm worryed about the fender because it's metal, it's black so i'm pretty sure it's coated with something. I didnt paint it because i plan on repainting my hole car a different color so i wanted to save the money towards the paint change. So will it be okay and not rust if i leave it unpainted till the summer ( a few months) or is it something i need right away?
this is how the fender is..

lemme know i dont wanna replace it again lol the dealer costs are insane

it will be ok for a little bit but it will eventually start to rust. theres no clear on it. its just a flat black paint to coat the bare metal.
Or you could primer it black and it will hold up. Or you can primer it what ever color you want. Some places sell red, blue, yellow, whatever
the fender isnt going to rust! thats a special factory applied primer-its like an electrically charged primer process or something(friends at bodyshop said) -my friend had 2 of the fenders on his civic for almost a year and all that happened was that they faded

I had my fender that was unpainted like that for more than 6 months....and it was around fall and winter. The fender after while started look dull, and even turned brownish, black. I took it in to maaco tho after I had money and the painted it without a problem. The paint came out great, and I was happy about it all. so I dont think you have anything to worry about.
good luck man.

Exactly the fender comes primered and ready to paint. Its not bare metal that would rust.

i did the same thing and just left it on with primer. I had it on for about seven months and it started to build up surface rust, but when I took the car to get it painted they just sanded it off, it just depends on what environment you keep it in, it'll be good, but the look sucks ***. I always got made fun of because my car was flat and gloos black.
