I have a blue 91 CRX, so of coarse my HT name is unique...

There are no decals on the back besides the CRX in the of the rear lights. I have no sunroof if that helps. My manual simply says "CRX"

How do I know if its an HF or DX? I hope those are the two types, cause I know it isnt an SI

 

you probably have the dx. you can tell by the vin for sure, but i don't remember the digit to look for. pop the hood, if you see a round thing at the back of the engine compartment that says "dpfi" its a dx.

 

its a hf if the valve cover says 8 valve....and its mpfi

 

Does it have a rear wiper? HFs did not come with one.

So heres what my step dad just told me:

HF = 1.2L

DX = 1.5L

Si = 1.6 (or 1.7) L

I do have a rear whiper, and my car is a 1.5L. So I have a DX?

 

HF's are 1.5L

and HF's dont have a big circle thing on the IM where the intake box hooks up to

 

If your intake manifold looks like this, you have a DX or STD:

The way you can tell between DX and STD is if your transmission is manual and only has 4 gears, then its an STD. If you have 5 gears in a manual, its DX. I KNOW STDs did not come with automatics. Not sure about DXs.

If you I/M looks like this, you either have an Hf or Si:

If the car has a tach, you have an Si. Si: It should say D16A6 to the left of the exhaust manifold when you are looking from the front of the car. Hf... someone help me out how to identify an Hf.

 

Definently the above picture and its 5d manual, so i have a DX. Good to know

 

HF: Interior is blue. Tach redlines @ 5000 and revs to 5800. No wiper in the back. Look at the pics above this post and you'll see for sure.

No..

HF = 1.5L mpfi 8 valve motor..5spd.... It says HF on the back..

DX = 1.5L dpfi 16 valve motor...5spd or auto....It says nothing on the back..

SI = 1.6L mpfi 16 valve motor...5 spd,sunroof,Black interior with "CRX" sewed into the door panels,Nice seats with the hole in the headrest..It says "SI" on the back..90-91 models have 4 wheel disc brake..

 

'88-'91 CRX models

HF: 1.5L 8-valve. MPFI. 70hp (or maybe 62hp, not 100% sure on the HF power ratings)

DX: 1.5L 16-valve. DPFI. 92hp

Si: 1.6L 16-valve. MPFI. 105hp ('88 only), 108hp ('89-'91)

If it's a light metallic blue with blue interior, it's an HF. Honda called the color "Superior Blue Metallic". If it's a semi-dark blue-green (more blue than green) with a black and grey interior, it's a DX. If it's the stock color (not repainted), it's called "Celestial Blue Pearl". Not sure of the Honda paint code # for that one. On the driver's side doorjamb, just above the VIN sticker, there should be a sticker that lists the color. If it ends in "M", it's metallic paint; if it ends in "P", it's a pearl coat. So far as I know, there were only three pearl colors offered: Torino Red Pearl (burgundy or maroon to most of us), Celestial Blue Pearl, and Tahitan Green Pearl. That last one was only available on the Si model of CRXs in the US, and only in 1991. It replaced Barbados Yellow.

DX's had rear wipers on some of them. My '91 Torino Red Pearl (#R72P) has one, and it came with it. I don't think any HFs came with rear wipers.

A clear glass sunroof was an option from the dealer on DX and HF models. The panel pops up a little, or pops completely off. It doesn't slide back. Only Si models in the US had the sunroof panel that slides up over the roof and back, and it was only offered as a metal panel (US models, remember; there were overseas models that had a complete glass panel *instead* of a metal roof at all!)

All this is assuming the car is all-stock and hasn't been repainted or had the interior swapped out, of course.

Hope we can help you figure out what it is. Sound like a Celestial Blue DX to me. Sweeeeeeet color. It's on my list of CRXs to buy next. Already got the burgundy and a yellow '90 Si - now I just need a blue DX and a green Si, so I can have all the "weird" colors. Gotta love being different, I s'pose.

if this is so :about the circle" then why did my friends completly stock only owned buy and old lady before hims crf hf have the same setup??? i dunno if here motor when bad or what but he had the same damn intake manifold as my old 88 dx. and yes some of the dx's had auto tranny's.man i wish i had my dx back,

Either the motor was swapped or its not an HF..

Or maybe it was a 84-87 crx hf and the round thing you saw was a carberator..?

 

Is it possible to get your car repainted in that "celestial blue pearl"

some *** hat jumped on my bumper today and made two foot-print shapped areas of scratches on my bumper and chipped my hood...not a smart move for someone who is looking into investing in their car...lets just say hes been warned.

But do dealers or other places have acces to that 91 color, I love it!

 

any place can paint it. you just need the color code.im kinda wondering though if maybe the old lady that owned it before him had some work done.it was a hf no doubt about it.

Not true, my 91 dx has a rear wiper.

 

celestial blue was only available for DX, manual or auto. VERY rare color, more than tahitian green and y49. i like it.

 

hf's have a tach and the rev limit is 5500 and red line starts at 5000rpm....

 

im very confused too! because my car is white, havent looked at the motor yet, blue interior and what look like SI seats (except...they dont say CRX on them, but they have the same pattern and colors), says nothing on the back except "honda" and "crx".....AHH! i think im going to have to go look at my car now.....ill settle this once and for all.

EDIT: it has the rear wiper too.

The seats arent supposed to say crx on them..The door panels have "CRX" on them for the SI models..
You Say it has blue interior and its a white body..So its a HF....
Whats with you people..HF models say HF on the rear..
SI models say SI on the rear
DX models have nothing on the rear..

my 89' dx has a rear wiper.. Kinda strange..

 

I owned a 90 CRX before and it was a DX auto and had a rear wiper.
