exmag rusting on me?
ok, i did a search under archives for "exmag rust" and "exmag rusting" both were inconclusive. so heres the deal.
about 3 months ago i installed a greddy evo 2 on my car, it was great, but still a little too much noise for my taste. also, my shifter didnt go into gear so i wound up revving to about 8k RPMs, ever since then i hear a tin rattle from the exhaust and it makes it sound very ricey. so, i was going to go with an RS*R ExMag exhaust. but ive read on one post that a guy was complaining about his rusting in 1 year, bad. he lives in Ohio. i live in central Florida.
is the exmag really just powder-coated mild steel? or is it full stainless and just powder coated? RS*R's discription is a little misleading on this. anyone with this exhaust care to verify? and if it is only mild steal, would this be a problem for a florida only car? since theres no snow or salt on the roads down here. i know i like the sound, but i also want an exhaust that isnt gonna die on me.
btw, it was my own stupid fault not to mail in the warrenty on the evo2, but from what i read no the warrenty card this is not covered (blowing the insulation)

well i cant really shed any light on the exmag, but i can say i havent ever heard any bad talk of it....
the apexi n1 comes powercoated no stainless and is completely fine.....
but, your greddy can handle 8,9, or even 10k rpms, thats not your problem (probably)....you probably have a bolt loose and/or a leak somewhere....check it out before you spend a bunch of money....

yeah, rattles are usually a loose heat shield or other bolt related thing under the car. give it a look.
the exmag appears to be coated mild steel. however, i don't think that'll be a problem in florida. i'm not sure what the muffler is made out of, but the piping isn't stainless. just get under the car once in a while and make sure the coating is in good shape.

the Ex-Mag uses coated 409 stainless steel piping. Better than aluminized mild steel but not as good as 304 in terms of rust resistance.
Since you don't have to deal with road salt, rust won't be as much of a problem as it would in the mid-atlantic, midwest, or northeast. I think you'd be fine with the RSR.
Also keep in mind that a lot of exhaust rust starts from the inside. When you make short trips, water vapor stays in the exhaust system. Thats where the 409 will beat the mild steel - less likely to rust from the inside out.
Personally I'd consider the Tanabe Hyper medallion. Its quiet under cruise and throaty at WOT - about the same volume as the RSR - and its full 304 stainless. Its a really nice exhaust for the 5th gen that not too many people have.
