Squeaking brakes??
My gf told me her brakes are squeaking on her 5G lude, both when she's braking and even when she's starts off (accelerating). I haven't heard it yet, but she said she hears it when she just starts off (going pretty slow) and doesn't hear it after that when she's accelerating. Anyone know what this might be? When she first told me her brakes were squeaking, I thought "oh, guess the pad's worn", but then she said she hears it when she starts going also. Is the pad or shim or something else loose? If so, how do you check? Thanks.
I assumed it was the warn pads also, but they also squeak while *accelerating*, which doesn't sound like a warn pad as the pads shouldn't be touching the rotors when accelerating. It also squeaks right when you start to go, when the car's still moving slow, but goes away as speed picks up. That doesn't sound like it's hitting the wear indicator. It sounds like the pad's not seated right or something. Any ideas? Or would the wear indicator be heard even when beginning acceleration (which I don't think it should)?? Thanks.
there are "wear indicators" on brake pads that cause it to squeak in order to let you know that they need to be replaced soon. They will always be in contact with the rotor, even if the brake pads aren't, such as when you are not applying brakes. It is these that are making the noise. Have her brakes done... she needs new pads.
If you get a chance to check out a pair of brake pads you will notice the indicators. There will usually be one per wheel, and they look like a piece of spring steel that is mounted to the side of the pad.
