rota vs the real thing
Ive been looking at the rota wheels and some of them look real nice for the money. Most of them are copies of more expensive wheels. Will they be like the real thing(or close to it) or are they crappy wheels. What do you guys think of Rota?

yes rotas are actually very nicely made, and looks almost identical to their "real" counterparts

Thats great to hear! These wheels are a great deal then. I tried searching how much the real versions were: http://www.kingmotorsports.com...heels and i thought rotas must be crap knock offs or something. I need to get some!
A LOT of people use rotas, so if there were any quality issues, you would hear about it. Usually the real thing will be a Forged Aluminum wheel (lighter & stronger), while the rota counterpart is Cast Aluminum. This is the reason for the price difference.
A set of 4 15x6.5 rota slipstreams will cost around $350 and weigh 11.5 lbs each.
15x6.5 Spoon SW388s (real thing) will cost that much each wheel and weigh 8.6 lbs each.
Unsprung weight is very important in racing, but not always a priority over budget.

Its still nice to have the real thing though.
I have a set of slips and I have no worries with them. Ill run snow chains with them(almost did this year but the roads cleared up). If I damage one bad oh well 100 bucks at my nearest speed shop.
With 15x7 slips and 205/50 711's I can drive my car up onto the curb and not scratch them.

This is me right here
I have another question: Do all of the wheels come with center caps, or only some? Most of the rotas on http://www.jaydm.com are pictured without caps.

I own one set of Rota wheels, and one set of real Spoon SW388 wheels.
I used to own another set of Rotas on my car, but I came across a killer deal on a brand new set of the Spoons (legit - paid with credit card, got a receipt, etc.) instead of the $1585.00 they go for.
As far as noticing a difference on my car when going from 12lb. rotas to 8.5lb. Spoons, the answer is NO. There is no difference from the driver's seat.
this is coming from somsone who drove on "fake" Rotas for 2 years before getting "real" wheels.
The real versions of most of the Rota knock-offs are 99% of the time fully forged wheels, which are stronger and lighter than the cast Rotas. Does this mean Rotas suck, they're weak, etc? Hell no.
I've rocked a set of Rotas on my wife's car for 3 years with zero problems. Her C8 wheels are still 100% perfect, inclucing the finish.
The only Rota finish that lacks quality IMO is their flat black. It's kind of cheezy looking, and it is not as durable as their clear-coated other finishes.
The forged "real" versions of the wheels, such as the Spoon SW388 wheels, are track wheels and IMO are not necessary on a street car.
The forged wheels are expensive as ****, and mostly hard to find if you ever need one replacement wheel in the event that you need one in case of an accident. Rotas are cheaper, more abundant, and easily found in single pieces. You have to really search for single wheels such as Spoon, because they come two wheels per box!
On the street if you hit a curb, I think both wheels will be damaged. I'd rather replace a $90.00 Rota than a $385.00 "real" wheel.
Hell it's hypocritical for me to own Spoon wheels because I think they're overkill on a street car.
Again had I not gotten a killer deal on the real wheels, I'd stil be rocking Rotas.

Well they should all come with caps, but most of the caps are hideous, so they won't chow the pictures with them.
The Slips and Sub Zeros have the ugliest center caps in the history of mankind.

I bought my slips from jaydm and they came without center caps. It also took jaydm a 2 weeks to ship my wheels from sandiego to L.A. and an additional month for the lugnuts. And they gave me all types of other bs. Jaydm

Nothing wrong with Rota's but when I wanted them they were on back order so I opt'ed for some Nippon F-2 wheels, look just the same , wieghts only 10 lbs and I got the gunmetal ones instead of flat black. Looks way better than flat black IMO, I'll post some pics tommorrow.
I would like some rota's that would be a nice addition to my wheel collection.. im looking for some C'8 and also some slips.. and a set of gsr blades if someone has those i would give my left nut.. for em cuz then i could still have more kids..right now i have 2 pair of SI rims and they are nice. and i have a set of 17" luna exel rims they are heavy they are on the crusin car. lol..
