hello im doing this for a friend (thats why i dont know about this kind of civic) well the guy has a '96 civic dx he just moved to cali and has to pass smog by the end of the month, well he's throwin a code for a bad o2 sensor.....and i need to know if a new bosch o2 would work as well as a honda o2 sensor???? because he is on a budget and the bosch o2's are alot cheaper, thanks for any info

 

some people say (actually quite a few people) say that the Bosch units don't last, and are crap. I've been running a Bosch O2 sensor for over a year w/ no noticible decreases in gas mileage, and no CEL, so it has worked fine for me thus far....

They all work the same.... just get whatever is cheaper.... I just changed the o2 sensor for a customer's '98 civic with a bosch unit. The original sensor is from Denso, and the bosch is also from denso, it's just boxed up as bosch.

Yeah, Bosch is a pos. Mine (all that Ive EVER used) lasted less than 4months before throwing some bs cel.
I switched to denso units from sparkplugs.com and havent run into any issues. MPG remains the same and no cel. OE honda uses denso sensors anyway.

 

Do you happen to remember if you got the "universal" or "OE identical" sensor from sparkplugs.com?

 

I just replaced my brand new bosch o2 sensor with a used stock one that I found at a junkyard... the bosch kept throwing codes.

 

you can get used oem o2 for 30-50$

 

Definately go w/ the oe identical.
It has the connector on the end of the tail.

 

First off:

Hell the OE and Bosch units look NOTHING alike at all! NTK units and Denso units are almost identical looking, and from my experience perform well.

From my numerous experiences with Bosch sensirs, they SUCK from what I've seen. I work at a shop that only deals with Hondas and Acuras, and I cannot tell you how many countless times we've had to replace new or failrly new Bosch o2 sensors with OE Honda or Denso, or NTK because the Bosch units simply suck.

If you want something cheaper try a Denso "first time fit" or an NTK direct plug in unit. They are superior to Bosch.

DJ Sandoz is seriously the only success story I've seen when it comes to Bosch.

BTW:

The owner of the 1996 Civic Dx needs to make sure his exhaust manifold isn't cracked. Those cars are notorious for that sort of thing, and that throws the CEL for the primary o2 sensor also.

</TD></TR></TABLE> thank you for your help also right now im still trouble shooting but the code i got on the civic was 67 and the best price ive found on a cat is $250(and that was used)

 

i have had my bosch o2 for about 2years now and no problems whatsoever. i beleive that a lot of the issues people have come from not wiring or installing it correctly. just my thoughts. were are you guys finding stock o2 sensors that cheap anyway? cheapest i have found is 2-250??

 

Like I said, I had seen lots of people complaints about these units, but I didn't see them until after I bought mine.

I feel lucky that mine works well, it's easy to change just not cheap, so I will continue to keep my fingers crossed.

How can you wire an oe replacement incorrectly? It just plugs in, unless maybe you got a universal sensor?

You can get them new for that price too !
I have asked this twice question before with no answer and it looks like a good time to try again: Why are the Bosch O2's priced way more then Denso etc ?

 

i used the universal. it was cheaper. but i would like to know were i could get a oem unit for as cheap as you guys are talking about.

Got a Denso direct fit primary O2 for my 97 EX $48. sparkplugssource/ebay

 

i know its already been said but its worth re mentioning.

BOSCH IS CRAP! inaccurate POS! OEM&lt;ALL

well maybe denso is ok. even the NTK universal is poo. go figure its made by NGK.
