Just Purchase a 1980 Civic 1500. Need advice.
Hi, this is my first Honda and I am clueless about the cars. I am looking for a little direction. I purchased a great running 1980 Civic 1500 Hatchback for a decent price. I am wondering if there are any upgrades that can be done, or should I just enjoy it the way it is? Can any of the newer Honda engines be installed with out using a sledge hammer and crowbar? I really cant find any upgrade info for the early 80's Hondas. Thanks in advance.

1980? Good god, is that thing carbureted?
Im not exactly sure what mods you could do for your car but there should be a few, like having a custom exhaust made, and taking some stuff out to lighten it up a bit. Welcome to Honda-Tech and Search is your friend.

Don't swap it. It's a classic. I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find some parts for it... If not sell it, someone will give you some good money for it.
I would if I had the money

I really have no intentions of ripping it apart. I was just curious. I guess I will just enjoy the 40+ mpg
I have read some where 50 mpg, but I think that would be stretching it. I will post some pictures tonight after I pick it up. Thanks for the info.

get a good tune up and I think 50mpg is definetly possible...
A friend of mine has one, it has an interesting little (FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions stick on the back window.
I think they are
1. no it's not for sale
2. yes it gets 50mpg
3. my other car is a Yellow NSX
I'll get a pic if I remember

I say swap it. Sure its classic. but the gas mileage would still be good w/b18c. B18B would be more straitforward and would still be a blast. Plus it would be fast as a mother, a sleeper all while maintaining its classicness. If your pretty handy. I gaurentee you could get most of it done your self. Rent a welder and a torch. That would be a sick project car and would mos defineatly get looks, from magazines as well. anyone remember the type R powerd 78 mini that was in sport compact car???? SICK!!!!!!!!! This would be sicker.

SEEM TO BE THAT a d serie will bolt right on it , mount are the same I think why dont u try put a sohc z6 or something and if the d serie fits why not a b- serie or a h-serie that thing would kick *** with a h22a on it
save urself a headache and dont swap it, wiring up for fuel injection and all that goes with it NOT WORTH IT. if anything keep it as a beater. but dont get me wrong i like it
just not worth it to change it dramatically

I think the swap would be more difficult than expected. Wouldn't you need to update fuel system and stuff, because of the fuel return to the tank. Not sure, just asking.
