Default diasppearing coolant, any ideas?

ok I need some ideas, this is the problem im having.
My coolant is disappearing but there is no visible leaks
Its got a new radiator and cap, im wondering were its escaping to cuz im having to fill it up every week and 1/2.

I did a search nothing really along my problems, except for a thread were its says
to check for a milky substance under the oil cap or in coolant, but I dont see that.

I believe he was probably reffering to maybe a headgasket starting to blow.
I did smell a funny odor just only today driving down the highway, and as usual had to ad some coolant, was low.
any help is appreciated
thanx

I had a similart problem, but I had to only add a quart or so every month. One of the coolant lines near the intake had a pin hole tear in it. I found it on accident when I took the air intake out to do some other work.

You may want to look underneath your car for evidence of a leak. Look at the frame, floor panels, exhaust for such evidence. It may weel be that you are losing coolant and that the wind is spraying it all over the place. Yet, since the leak is only apparent when the engine is running, you may not notice it on the ground...

You don't need to drain the oil to check for that.

I just got done fixing exact same problem in my moms van. The water pump was defective and it leaked only when running causing overheating. Maybe in your case, it doesn't leak as much, so it doesn't overheat yet. But just my 2 cents.

Have the cooling system pressure tested. Pressureize the system to 12-15 PSI.

If it is the water pump, coolant will leak form under the timing belt.

If it is a blown head gasket it will most likely leak into one of the cylinders.

If it is a hose or connection it will leak at the ponit of failure.

hahahahaha fuuuuuunny A+ buddy I'm only 20, and I would make no assumptions on intelligence based on age... but don't say stupid **** like that. You're making yourself sound dumb, even if you aren't.

And as for the coolant issue check for hairline fractures in the radiator on the bottom. It happened to me and it was causing a very small leak. Can be caused by shock on it due to potholes etc.

I am putting my money on a leak in a hose somewhere. Next time you check your oil see what it looks like. If it is like a chocolate milkshake you have found your problem(headgasket) However I think you have a leak somewhere and it is either burning off or being sprayed around so you can't see it.

superbeastcrx No one called you stupid! But if the shoe fits. With the arrogant attitude you are proving your lack of self control. A lack of self control is a sure sign of immaturity. I am a degreed mechnical engineer with 25 years experience but that does not make me better than anyone else. God gave you two ears and one mouth. Listen twice as much as you talk and you may become wise.

lol, ya you do. one suegestion is to test the coolant. you can buy a tester for pretty cheap to test the integrity of the coolant and it will also show you if oil has been mixing. i just love people that think they know every little ******* thing and have to tell everyone.

"but i'm young and dont think like you older people" As an older person I take that as a compliment. As you gain experience the understanding of how to influence people with much patience and humility will go much further than a quick temper.

was the heat on in your car today? if so, check your heater core... it could be leaking, although I would think you would REALLY smell it. Anyway, one more thing to check for. If it is really leaking, the carpet would be getting wet around there as well.
Sometimes, what i do to pinpoint a leak is to start the car and let it warm up (cycle the radiator fan). Then use a flash light and start looking everywhere in the engine bay if you can see smoke rising. And also use your nose!
Just be sure to never open the radiator cap when hot!
