Knocking in rear, bad bushings...?
Well like I said I've got knocking in the rear left and right sides when I go over bumps/potholes/etc.. Not sure what to check I was searching into bushings but couldnt find anything relating to bushings going out. What should I look into, are bushings the right direction what could it be? Thx in advance
BTW this is for a 93 Prelude SI

did anything to the suspension lately? it may be a loose upper strut mount or the nut that holds it all together, or a blow strut.
Nope stock suspension as far as I can see, just recently bought the car and was told nothing was done to it. I believe they put some civic SI wheels on it from the looks. And it has some camber in the rear but it looks stock just like they said. Rear end is real stiff like it should be, just makes that annoying noise.
sounds like the typical "shock knock" in preludes. if it sounds like it is coming from near the top of the shock towers try this fix (it's related to what you mentioned)
What I suspect happens is that the upper bushings get compressed over time and expose the inner shock collar. The collar then is free to hit the top washer. The fix for this is to remove the top nut and washer and then pry out the collar (needle nose did the trick). You can then either replace the collars (some companies make smaller ones) or you can just grind 2-3mm off the top of the collar. Then replace. This completely cured my car of any knocking, squeaking, etc, and it's worked for several others. Instead of shortening the collars some people just add more washers but the collar technique is getting more at the root of the problem.

Thanks Yield! Sounds like I should give it a try. I drive a 99 Integra and this is my sisters prelude, how much of a pain in the *** is it going to be to uninstall/install on both left and right rear, I have a very limited selection of tools here since im in town on a visit.
So if this is the problem should it be this easy to hear? ANY bump makes the rear sound like its knocking.

My 98 SH does the same thing; it's a pretty common "problem." Thanks for the litle write-up, too - I'm going to have to try that once it warms up (it was 4 degrees this morning).

All you need to do is remove the trunk lining, take off the top shock nut, take off the washer, and then you should be able to see the metal collars surrounded by the bushing. I pried it out with some pliers and then ground the collars down about 3mm with my dremel, which was a pain but it's all I had.
The car sounds totally different now - completely silent! I even took out the jack because it would bang around every once in a while and I was so happy with how quiet it was I didn't want anything to spoil it! It's been my favorite "comfort" mod.
