might be cheaper just to find a used short-block....

I was going to do the same with my d15b2, but the machine shop qouted me "approx" 1500$ after I brought everything to them in pieces, all they had to do was replace the bearings, gaskets, rings, and re-assemble....

needless to say, I went and purchased a Z6 and converted to obd1 for half of that.

if you can take it a part you can put it back together. Get a book for all of you torque specs and sequences. Got to Autozone and get all your of your prices, then go to O'Rilley's and order all your parts with their price match. I say this because Autozone with have prices but won't be able to get some of the product. It took me about 2 hours to rebuild mine, but I had to file the rings myself. You can use some Lucas oil stabilizer to lube all of your bearings and for lubing the cylinder walls. It doesn't take much either. Here are some prices, hope this helps.

Rod Bearings List 30.49 Price 17.99 Part No. FED 4-1520CP

Main Bearings List 55.92 Price 32.99 Part No. FED 6699MA

Oil seal Front List 18.63 Price 10.99 Part No. NAT 710332

Premium Ring (Chrome) Set List 103.37 Price 50.99 Part No. SPO E515KC

These are O'Reilly Auto Parts List Prices and Part No. The Prices are Autozone.
They may not be the same for you, I'm in Batesville, Arkansas, and some things are a lot cheaper over here, like houses. lol I had prices on the head gasket and the rear main seal too, but I can't find my invoice on those. I think it was some where around 170.00 for all of that stuff combined. Not bad for a rebuild. Good Luck

Oh yea, the complete rebuild kit is some where around 300.00
