Rear Bumper
Today at the gas station I noticed the passenger side of my bumper had become detached and I could see some black adhesive that may have been holding it up. I looked in the manual and seen how it "supposedly" suppose to be attached but I need to look at the bumper closer to determine what happened and it's f*cking cold outside.

Any comments on fixing this are appreciated.

Ok, after comparing the other side to the side in question the grommet and screw assembly is missing totally, and i believe the side of teh bumper was being held in place by that adheasive I spoke of earlier.
I need to get a new grommet screw assembly it's a pita that it's going to take like 2 weeks to get it if the dealership doesn't have them in stock...
Should I have removed my mud guards before this winter season got under way? I didn't and I don't know how much of a difference it would make but they hold snow buildup.

we fixed my friend's 4 door sedan with a few zip-ties, it's been holding up for about a year now with no problems, and if you do it right you cant even tell a zip-tie is there
i don't know of any holes on the uper part of the connection. The bumper has a hole in it, but all I noticed was a notch where the grommet goes on the rear quarter panel.
Hmm...
Thanks for the tip. Need to find a hole though, you didn't drill one did you?

there should be a hole in the rear quarter panel also...my rear bumper is being held in with a bolt, nut, and a couple washers that are bigger than the hole, on both sides...works just as good as the grommet and screw

I'm thinking on the OK side there are 2 complete holes, but on the damaged side somehow or another the thinnest part of the hole got chipped offf and now there isn't a complete hole to mount from.
Therefore they put that gay adheasive on to hold it becuase that adheasive I am talking about isn't on the other side.
I redone the adheasive part w/ superglue for temp. holding and I think I'm going to get a bolt kit and try to put a bolt in that area where the assembly should be despite the fact I don't have two complete holes. I could drill a new hole, I'll look into that but it may not be too feasible atm.

This is how it should be, but it's not. This sucks. This honda has been abused or something.

Is it rusted? I see snow on there, which means there could be cancer. My mom's civic rusted completely through in that area, and the bumper just hung.

I thouht the top part was plastic, It appears to be despite the fact one would think it's metal. There was more material in that same area willing to break off and I broke off a piece and easily broke it into a few pieces itself.
Such an easy fix, just get a nut and bolt, with 2 washers and bolt it to the quarter panel. It'll be more secure than the stock plastic piece. If there's anything blocking the hole, just punch it out with a screwdriver.
Here's an example, but for the front bumper:

You just wouldn't need to drill a new hole like I did.

Same ideal I have but let me explain again for you.
Just like any other mount there are two holes, one on the bumper, other on the Quaterpanel. Well Lets say that part of the plastic surrounding the hole on the QuaterPanel side broke off, leaving an Incomplete hole. So incomplete so it's unsuitable for secure mounting. Change the enviroment to a wild ohio winter, snow everywhere, sleet in the nicks and crannies of the car. You now have my situation.
Sound like I need to drill a new hole for myself doesn't it?

Your explanations aren't so great, it's a little hard to understand the exact problem without pictures of what's happened, but it just sounds like the factory mount is broken off. You don't need it.

With the above statement, you made it seem as though you still had the lip on the inside of your quarter panel. You can make a much more secure fitting with anut/bolt/washer combo. Use the existing hole in the quarter panel as a marker, and drill a hole a little further away and secure it.
If you have absolutely nothing at all to mount a bolt to, meaning the actual quarter panel lip is completely gone, I would get a piece of metal to mount under the taillight area, and extend to where the mounting point used to be from the erroded quarter panel, and mount the bumper to that.

I hate that plastic grommet its weak. u can go to the harware store and buy this clip thing with a nut tread on it. (I forget what u call it.) U can then use a 10mm bolt or something to secure the bumper.
So, why can't you just drill a hole like MF said? I understand the weather is shitty, but you can't get to a garage, the metal is very thin, and obviously the bumper plastic is easy to drill.
I am not so sure thats the best idea, I can drill the hole sure, but will the hole hold up any better than the last one did? Remember how I told you about the material snapping off like plastic?
Sure I'll try it soon, but I wanted more opinon on what other things I could do.

It's still a little tough to see what's going on, but it looks like the plastic peice broke right out of the hole, so now its just a slot out of the metal.
When you touch the metal, it breaks like plastic? What does it look like when it breaks off? It looks like you have an EG, and if that material is breaking off, I'm almost going to gaurantee you that it's corrosion, and there's nothing you can do about it.
95% of the EGs I see up in the northeast are rotted in the exact location. I had to JB weld the bumper onto my mom's, because the whole area was eaten away by rust.

Well yeah, I broke off all of the brittle stuff. I think I have found some good metal to mount to and I was in the process of drilling the holes and I had to go do something, I will have to resume that here soon. How did you JB weld the bumper on? I mean what parts did you glue together?

Well, the whole rear 1/4 panel was rusted to hell on both sides, and there was barely any metal left. The bumper was hanging and dragging on the wheels.
The bumper only needed to be fixed to be functional, so I scaped off all the suface rust, and loaded a ton of JB weld on the top edge of the bumper and the area where the hole used to be, and just put them together. I used a jack to hold the bumper in place until it cured.
It looked okay, but the paint in the area was all bubbled anyway. The car was 10 or 11 years old, and had almost 300K on it, so it just needed to be funcitonal until it finally died.
If you want to do it right, you'll have to replace the whole 1/4 panel, which will cost you more than the car is worth. If you drill a hole, that's going to eventually rust as well. This happens with all EGs, so search around and decide the best course of action for the plans you have with the car:

Since the metal sounds like it's beyond salvageable, You might want to tkae it to some shops to see what kind of estimate they'll give you.

Update:
Today I initiate the process of JB-Welding this side of my bumper to the car. Got the jack under the bumper for vertical support and tape for lateral.
