Distributor bolt mounting location. And about 3 to 5 HP. D16z6 92-95 models and D16y8 96-00 models.

z6 is obd1, y8 is obd2. z6 has 9.2:1 cpr, y8 has 9.6:1 cpr. y8 oil pumps flow 33% less than the z6. y8s have stronger shift forks. y8s supposedly have better intake manifolds (mid rpm range) but z6s flow better at high rpm range.
but my overall opinion z6>y8.

I know I still have a VTEC Si motor for the 94. The VTEC kicks in at different times (I think). Mine kicks at 4,300.

92-95 Civic/Civic Hatchback EX/Si
93-95 Del Sol Si...
D16Z6 SOHC VTEC - 125hp 106lbs/ft tq - OBD1

96-00 Civic EX...
D16Y8 SOHC VTEC - 127hp 107lbs/ft tq - OBD2a/b (96-98/99-00)

D16Z6 tranny has aluminum shift forks.
D16Y8 tranny has steel shift forks.

D16Y8 shortblock is better than the D16Z6 shortblock.

D16Z6 head flows better than the D16Y8 head.

D16Y8 intake manifold is better than the D16Z6 intake manifold.
