QUESTIONS GALORE! Turbos, Suspension, Driving School!
So I just joined the forum today because I am planning on purchasing an S2000. Hopefully you guys experts can help me out a little bit. I definitely try to do my research before doing anything stupid so I read a lot of the forums before asking my questions. I think I'll take your suggestions on going to the track and various driving schools to really learn how to handle this car before doing any mods. Anyone know of any good places around the D.C area? I live in MD about 30 minutes from DC. Next question... for the turbo stuff. Good turbo for the S2000? What other mods should be done prior to adding a turbo? Is it necessary to replace the rods and other engine components prior because of the increased pressure? Also I always thought the suspension stock was pretty nice then why do a lot of you guys suggest swapping out the suspension for something like the teins with edfc's as one of the first mods? Is it going to be a huge performance upgrade. I also have a hard time locating some respectable performance shops and installers in my area, anyone know of places in my area? I am willing to drive pretty far.
the closest road track to you will be summit point.... i have to find the website for it.... and i'll post it up when i find it..... if you want drag racing. there's MIR which is down passed waldorf, or there's capital race way.... but our cars arent' really made for drag racing.... and there's quite a few auto-x that go around the dc metro area, but there's all done for now...
as for the turbo.... there's a few companies that have turbo kits, inline pro, and ultimate racing both make very nice turbos.... the inline pro kit however makes more power...
(by the way inline pro is local..
there in springfield..) modifications i say you do before/while you're getting a turbo...
1. AEM EMS (very very very important)
2. upgraded clutch
3. upgraded rear differential (however boosteds2k has done nothing to it and has been fine for now.)
as for the shops in our area...
1. http://www.alteredatmosphere.com its in gaithersburg and they do a lot of work on supras, 3000gt's and such.. but they got a dyno and the prices are really good...
2. http://www.autothority.com it's in fairfax va... and they do a lot of work on porches, and vw's.. but they do have a few really fast hondas/acuras... and they also have a dyno with relatively good prices...
3. http://www.evolutionautosports.com it's in chantilly, so it might be a little hike for you, but this is where you're gonna want to go if you want volk wheels tein suspension yada yada..... they work a lot on s2000's and 350zs... however. i would let them install anything.. hehehehehe..
4. http://www.inlinepro.com it's in springfield va, this is where you're gonna want to go to talk to them about your turbo..
it's a sweet kit, i'm planning on getting it.... they also have a dyno but they charge a lot of money... and i wouldn't have them install things... (just my experinece with them) but they are good at it.. but sloppy at times.... it's a chance i'm not willing to take....
now as for the suspension stuff.. yes the stock is very very good.... people say to change the suspension first cause...
1. they probably dont' track the car..
2. they just want to get rid of the gap between the fender and the tire.... (just for looks)
but i would suggest to drive the car, get to learn the car, take it to a track or a couple of auto-x's.... and then after you're comfortable with it..... then you drop it and work on suspension..

you should come out sometime......

yea i'm defintely willing to do installs myself along with other people, i'm definitely a big diy. when it comes to cars and stuff under the hood i'd be willing to do the work provided i have someone along with me that knows what they are doing. thanks for all the info been a great help. just two more quick questions... what do you think of apexi electronics... or is aem ems a lot better? and i'm definitely more interested in performance and then of course looks as secondary.. but there was a posted topic earlier that was talking about the first mod and no one really gave a straight answer... what would you suggest as the first performance mod, considering performance first, after i've learned to handle the car well and taken some driving classes and such? like i said i try to do my homework early, i will probably be purchasing the car in a month or so and then yea i'd definitely like to come out with the people in our area. can't wait! thanks again!
well.. well the apexi vafc is good.. but it's nto the greatest... after all it's only a piggyback.. and is really only effective at WOT... but for the time being at it only being roughly 300 bucks.. it's worth it to do some slight tuning for your I/H/E... i hae the vafc haven't installed it yet.. but it will be put in soon..... but in the long run if you're going hardcore later on... you should definently get the aem ems.... when i go turbo in about a year or so.. i will be getting the aem ems for tuning.... the ems is a stand alone ecu so the tuning capabilities of it are limitless....
i'm not sure what your plans are so i can't really tell you if you should get the vafc or just go for the ems hehehe...
as for the first mod... beyond driving and stuff like that.... i went with suspension...... i wanted a lower stance, lower center of gravity, and so forth...my next mod is I/H/E and vafc... which should be put on the car within the next week or two (not including the header)...but it's all up to your preference...
and i'll see you around sometime... by the way where in md are you??

as for the direction i plan on going with my car, speed obviously, but after i learn to drive more aggressively i'm definitely interested in upgrading the suspesion getting some sticky tires and such and just really enjoying driving hard too. any suspension system you particularly like on the s2k?
well the stock so-2 are quite sticky.... what year did you get? or are you getting???
as for suspensions there's a lot of differnt combinations you can go with... ways to save money, ways to go over the top... all up to how much you want to spend.... i can explain more in person... and there's another thread in here that i explained a lot of it already...
