Default auto-x

wuddup to my fellow s2k'ers. as the topic says im going to go to auto x for the first time. i think i want to buy some suspension instead of turbo kit. i know there is JIC, TEIN, and Tanabe. What r ur opinions on the best suspension. i dont want to turbo it cuz it costs way too much money and i dont think i can handle all that power at the track. any opinion is good to me. thanks

Most would say that the stock suspension is already excellent.

first autox, here are my suggestions:

-keep stock suspension
-if you want to upgrade anything, upgrade pads to something like cobalt gt sports (no vr specs, you will not be able to heat them up before your runs)
-only mod that will not bump you up in class is the front swaybar
-mods will only bump you up in the class, stay stock for awhile. alot of the national guys/gals have stock s2000's

any other questions, let me know!

I agree try it stock first and see. The car handles great without suspension mods. Or if your really itching to, get an Xbrace. I hear that helps the most out of all the braces. Not sure if that will bump your class or not.

My first time was on a wet track. It wasnt a real event either. If it was I would have been majorily bumped up. I was with mostly lightly modded S's and I came in somwhere in the middle.

intake and exhaust will bump you up. i believe K&N filter in stock intake will not bump you up. By swaybar, i mean the one on the bottom of your car, in the front. I know you have the itch to mod (i did too) but please go out there stock for the first time. You will learn alot. A stock S is capable of so much.

No sway bar is different. Its under the fron of the car, not the strut tower bar.

hahahaa... there's a bunch of differnt bars on the car.. hehehehe... you already want to mod yet you dont' really know what things are yet.....

this car is very expensive to mod... turely do your homework before you start buying, otherwise you'll end up spening a lot of money on unneeded things...

as for mods..... even if you change the filter you will be bumped up to some modified catagory... my buddy took the little plastic things off his front bumper (the ones in front of the wheels) and he got disqualified for it....

Try a non sanctioned event first to see what its like. Basically run for fun, no prizes for best time or catagories.

when you sign up for the auto x... ask them for a rule book of some sort... caue differnt sanctions or differnt organisers have differnt rules as to what is moddified and what is not and yada yada... so that way you'll find out what you need to take off or put on or whatever you need to do to be in a certain class...

if in stock class, no roll bar needed. once you get into upper classes (street, super, etc..) a roll bar is needed

try auto-x'ing your car a whole season stock!!! serously, you don't need shocks, springs, sway bars, brakes, or power adders at an autocross for your first season if you don't have driving experience at an auto-x or driving the s2000. I'd say the same applies to a road course.

It took me awhile to "get" auto-x'ing. Once you understand the basis of weight transfer and where to balance the weight of the car on what side and what corner with modulating the gas and brakes, you've got it. Then, to get those tenths knocked off your times, you'll be critical on how close you get to the apex cones and what not.
