Default Turbo? Or EngIne SwaP?

Well everyone, i recently recieved a 97 honda civic Ex for my bday.. but the bad thing is.. that its Automatic ... (ya i know!! laught it up!) but for an auto it can beat some peeps with stick shift lol. Im converting it real soon since my homie lekz is getting his swap.. and then he is giving me his tranny and etc. When i get his d16 engine should i turbo it.. or just basically save up for a swap? What would be the wise decision for this Complicated question? Help a brotha out o.O

complicated?... WOW. and FYI, your HoM13's tranny isnt all you need for a auto to manual conversion. i hope he's giving you alot more than that.

swap, more potential IMO...but do one that you can have reffed. i dont feel like explaining what that is, so if you dont know search. boost is coo, but if not done correctly, you run into reliability probs. thats all youre gonna get from everyone cuz this really has been asked 100times. good luck

i dunno if this help's sell your 97 ex and buy a stock 92-95 cx hatchback, and swap it with a budget turbo on stock boost

eg hatch-1-2k salvage title
swap depending (dohc)- 1200-2500 complete
install -you and your buddy's
turbo kits 500 bucks

Simple sell the car and get a 5 speed with a b16 in it. Or even better buy a Impreza rs and turbo that baby.

just slap a greddy turbo on there if u want to be cheap/reliable and decently fast. maybe a hondata if your a baller.

if you want more play room, swap, and then turbo, if you want to be fast your going to need a lot of $$$$$$

Also i swapped a b16a2 into my 93 civic ex coupe, and to be honest i thought it was going to be faster, but i had really high hopes, the rev limit however was a big bonus.

Why? Because you have to stand on the throttle until 9 bajillion RPM to get any power out of it? High revving gives the illusion of speed a lot more than the reality.

Actually you could piece together a junkyard turbo for 500 and make ok power.

Anyway to the poster, flip a coin..... seriously.

I have a 97 Civic EX too but it's standard. The D16Y8 is in it. I was thinking about getting a turbo for my car but I want more power and more options out of the whole deal so I'm going for a swap.

and ill laugh wen that motor blows...turbo is sumthin to be taken seriously as is anything with your motor. If u can do that kit and have a reliable fuel management u get props but that setup would look like **** I wanna see u build a kit for 500...
