Default JUst did b18 Rebuild!! Massive smoke help

Ok ill give you a brief of what i did so far.
Rebuilt entire b18b1 motor, used old piston/rods , crank, valve train.

All new gaskets and seals all the way around.

The only thing is that the valve stems are supposed to be marked different and the ones i got from felpro where the same. After installing everything the motor is smoking like a train. White smoke, i know it is oil because the whole exhaust is coated with oil inside. Im thinking valve stem seals are bad. Has anyone ever had this problem? what seals did you use? Oh also i have a gsr oil pump on my ls motor, but that should not be the problem. Let me know. THANK!

Okay, really stupid question......how long did you run the motor? Did the smoke continue to come out even after about 10 minutes of running?

good question... not stupid.... You gotta give the rings time to seat/seal...
you did buy new rings, right?

Ran motor ideling for about 30 mins, even took it for a short ride. Im really leaning to valve stem seals. I searched and found some other things like this, ( cloud of smoke comming from your tail pipe ) which is what mine is doing.

Yes piston rings are brand new.

take out the spark plugs and see if their wet, I would agree with you it could be the valve stem seals

White smoke is not oil. Its coolant. Maybe u screwed up the headgasket install.

headgasket is perfect, it is oil because i stuck my finger in the muffler and it came out drecnehd with oil. SPark plugs had oil on them too.

did you double check your ring placement and ring gap before installing the pistons? if you had any of your rings placed incorrectly it would cause smoke, but not a ton of oil in your exhaust., i think your prolly right about the valve seals............

look at the oil cap, is it milky? that could be from a headgasket leak. that would cause a lot of smoke to come out of the exhaust

did you have your cyclinder walls rebored? what kind of rings are you using? If you have anything but cast iron rings and you didn`t have the cyclinder walls resurfaced this could be a problem

whoa, my friend and i just rebuilt his g2 because it bent every dman valve. we also used all new seals (felpro) and new rings along with new rod bearings. his is burning oil like a champ. and we kno its not coolant, because the oil inside the motor would be milky like someone already said. the rings that we bought were sealed power, the trick with these is that you have to pay attention to which way is up and which way is down. and we did use a ridge reamer and honer oh the cylinder walls before we put the bottom end back together. we now have the motor back apart again, and when we took out the pistons, the 2nd ring on the 3rd piston snapped, so we had to go with oem honda rings, which are really expensive. they seem like they are much higher quality than the sealed power rings. and we double checked which way rings are, which some werent on rite. and the new bearings we got were sealed power, and they were ****. in the package they were scratched, warped, totally fucked. we are waitin on new bearings, we'll see if it doesnt get better oil mileage this time....lol

thanx

i sent the block in to the shop, it was honed and std bore and used with std rings. I may have used sealed power but have never had a problem in the past.

I called felpro today and they said their valve stem seals are the same for intake and exhaust... im hoping i just didnt put one on right.

i just rebuilt my motor and having problems with cylinder 1 not firing, i guess a lot of us have problems with rebuilds.

anyways, is there smoke coming out anywhere else besides the tailpipe, how about the valve cover or dipstick hole?

if not smoke is coming from those 2 then your problem has to be in the head. Maybe bad seals or maybe improper cam timing?

hope that helps maybe, rebuilds are a pita

acl's aren't that bad either, and they're cheap.

i use the acl bearings and never have a problem.

sounds like either vavle steam seal or ring probleb. have you tried the "stop smoke" stuff they sell? its in a can. that has worked a few times for minor clearance problems.
