Why do people hate on the 1/8th mile?
In my area, we have one 1/4 mile track and about 3-4 1/8th mile tracks. Whenever I mentioned going to the 1/8th mile track, someone always mentions that they would rather go run in the 1/4.
Using the data from the 1/8th mile run, X.XX@XX mph, you can have an idea of what you'll run in the quarter. Looking at 60 ft. times, trap speed, etc. If your 1/8th mile time is subpar, what makes people think that they have some sort of magical "top end" that will get them a faster 1/4 mile time compared to their 1/8th?
I always hear the statement, "A Honda is not an 1/8th mile car." I'm just tired of the misconception, this comment comes from a lot of street cars. Discuss...

I would rather go to a 1/4 mile track also. However when it comes to testing 1/8's are awesome. T dragrace is for the most part won and lost in the first 660. If you can get your car to 60, 330, and 660 than the rest should be ok. Plus testing at a 1/8 is not as hard on parts than running the whole 1/4.

When I was running on street tires with 4 runs my 8th miles times were within a tenth of a second of each other, however my quarter mile times ranged from a 13.4 to a 12.9.
The reason for such a dramatic 1/4 mile change was that I was running on street tires so I had to run a 2 stage boost controller for traction.
And plus, the 1/4 mile is just more fun.

because the ppl that hate on the 1/8th mile are ignorant. they cant relate 1/8th mile times to 1/4 mile times. racing is racing whether its 1/8th, 1/4, 1/2, 1 mile. like the other guy said, the race is won from RT and 60' everything else after that means nothing.
I think it's more of an option. I know alot of states out there that only have 1/8 mile tracks. So if the only choice is to hit the 1/8 mi. what else can you do?

Remind me to never move to CT.
I would prefer to run a 1/4 over an 1/8. I have never ran a 1/8 track before but, I am not sure how I would like not being able to use all 4 gears. For me, It isn't enough distance or MPH.

i've raced at both and prefer the 1/4. dont get me wrong i like the 1/8th for practicing. when i used to race the 1/8th that's all i would use it as. helps me work on my launch and 1-2shift. in my stock lude i was consistantly getting low 2.3s 60ft times on regular tires.

i would have to disagree, there are alot of other driving factors power factors and gearing factors that determine how the race will turn out

for a pro that would be true, but for a bracket racer like 99.9% of us out there its not.
i know when i race its won 90% of the time at the tree. after that its just a matter of my car running the 60'. if it doesnt run the 60 i dont win.
besides, if u dont 60 u dont run fast, its proven, u cannot argue with that.

I race both but prefer the 1/4. Race a fast rwd domestic that runs about your same time in a 1/4. Most always you will alway come in on the short side on the 1/8. One prime example that stands out in my head was when I race a local camaro and the track annoucer was talking mess about the import racing this hot rod camaro on motor. The camaro slaughtered me out of the hole and I played catch up the whole way and finally passed it at about the 1000' and ran a 10.8 w/ a 7.2 1/8 where as the camaro ran a 6.9x 1/8 w/ a 11.0 @the 1/4. Most of the formulas to covert 1/8 to 1/4 are geared toward rwd cars, although they do give you a pretty good estimate. So in short, that is why I prefer 1/4.
i have ran BOTH 1/4 and 1/8th tracks...
i prefer 1/4 (which was carlsbad, now since closed
)
but san diego has two other tracks...
BARONA 1/8 track.... brand new super sticky 60 fts. (soon to be 1/4) hardly any hondas... mostly domestics
and QUALCOMM stadium... which is basically a track setup and torn down every week in the padres parking lot
surprisingly many many cars every week.

1/8th is the odd ball. Most run 1/4 mile. The 1/4 is classic, watch any old classic car show they don't talk about running an 1/8 mile track. It is always a 1/4.
My times would suck if I had to run a ***** 1/8 mile track.

theres a hell of alot of misconceptions in this post. i know when i misshift i lose at least 2/10ths off my ET immediately. once u lose time u cannot make it up. in 1/8th mile racing u have less of a chance of messing up. 3 gears VS 4 gears.

I find the 1/8th mile to be a harder track to run at, but gives me the best practice to getting off the line and getting my shifts down. Plus if you screw up in the 1/8th, or have a pipe blow off, its not as long of a coast to put it back on
also, i know when i run the 1/8th, either tap out 3rd or just shift into 4th.
to date my best overall time for both 1/8 & 1/4: 7.56@95 & 11.75@116

I've ran both too, and the 1/8 is just too damn short!!! A couple times I've gone to race or watch, and the ticket people tell me it's an 1/8 mile day (construction, etc.) and I'll just turn around and leave. IMO 1/8 isn't even worth it, unless it's the only thing you have.
