What do I use for transmission fluid in a 89 Prelude-S 5 Speed?
I am not really sure what it is we drained out of there and the owners manual was long gone when I got the car. Is it transmission Fluid? I need to know so I can top it off and drive away!
The computer at the shitty chain parts place said to use 5W30 motor oil--ummm....OK.

The honda manual suggests 5 or 10W30 as well. If you don't like that go to a honda dealership and pick up some Honda MTF.
A lot of people around here use GM/Pennzoil Syncromesh, but I don't know anything about a 3rd gen tranny with that stuff.

Best using genuine Honda MTF fluid or GM/Pennzoil Syncromesh it has properties that far outlast engine oil. Engine oil is really only for short term use and you will get notchy gear shifting much earlier than using the correct fluid.
OK great--thanks for the help. I was really kind of thrown when they said to use motor oil. I'll just go buy the Honda recommended stuff.
