Default vtec works on the dyno but not on the street???

so obviously while i was on the dyno VTEC was working perfectly. no CEL's, no engine failure... just perfection

then i go drive down the road on my way home only 10 mins later and i hit vtec in 2nd gear and i get a CEL, the tach goes crazy, and the engine dies.

my h22 guru already said its prolly something with the ignition but im wondering if it could be ANYTHING else. obviously i want this fixed already, so im wiling to try almost anything.

i took the distributor cap off earlier today and it had a lil bit of rust colored powder which i know is bad, but why would it work on the dyno but not on the street? btw, i got that dizzy like a lil over a year ago and i put less than average miles on my car so i hope that bish hasnt crapped out on me already

check for CEL codes and go from there. Just a guess, but you could check the ground near the distributor.

if you have a tach that is wacking out , that means that the tachometer feed from the distributor is not coming thru right, check for lose connections.

i took the cap and rotor off today to check out the ignitor and its the old brown kind. my dad said that honda doesnt use the brown ones anymore (it didnt change what it does, but i guess they changed the color or something)

so im going to get a new one and go from there.

edit: and the CEL just stays illuminated when i try to pull the code

It probably just crapped out after the dyno.
