What tires to get? (205-45-16)
I didnt know where else to post this so since im doing it to my teg I posted it here. Im getting a set of rota c8's and am getting 205-45-16 tires. I need something that has good dry traction for drag racing, has to last a while, and has to be quiet on the road. Im thinking about the Yokohama AVS100s. What you guys think. Thanks J
depends how much you want to spend?
dunlop sp9000 are very nice (dad had then before) they are $154 each on tirerack
yokohama avs es100's are good to and alot cheaper $82 each
toyo t1's are excellent and have great reviews $104 each at http://www.edgeracing.com

I think ive narrowed it down to the Yokohama AVS ES100's, Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712, and the Dunlop SP Sport FM901. Has anyone used these tires? If anyone has can I get their opinions.
I have Falken Ziex 512's on Rota C10's... I like them, and my buddy got them for me dirt cheap (62 a tire or something like that). They ride good, but the sidewall isn't very stiff... but i dont track the car really, so... I'm not particularly looking for something thats as stiff as lets say... Azenis...
When these get replaced, its safe to say I will probably be going with Yokohama AVS ES 100's. Supposed to be a great all around tire from my research.

I got the same tires, the falken ziex's. I personally hate them. They had very little grip, even for street driving, imo, and they would not "communicate" with you when they loose traction, mainly, they didn't squeal or anything. When they went from grip to nothing, there was no warning. A little scary when carving through a ravine, but, yes, they are cheap. Def. gettin some yoks AVS for my next tire, and I'll get some blizzaks for a winter set.

i have khumo ecsta ASX. i like em. soft ride, handles well, good dry/wet traction. and the treadwear is rated at like 420. ive had es100s and i think theyre GREAT tires but they get a little noisey after a while.
The GRbetas aren't bad. When they get below 4/32nd's they switch to the Azenis tread compound, so be careful. The tire will waste away really fast once this happens. They did that to make the tire grip well as it wore down. Sad though, you could have gotten a better deal buying a Fuzion ZRi. It's the same thing as an RE750.

es100s for a winter tire?
whatever floats your boat...
anyway, the spec-2s are a really nice tire in the rain, or in the summer. i am getting the es100s next, but i definately wouldnt recommend them as an all-season tire. like the spec-2s, their treads are definately not designed for snow. at all.

I'm sorry. I completely disagree with you. Once the Paradas get to less than 3/32nd's, they can't handle heavy rain AT ALL. I had them on my car for about a year, and I can safely say I will NEVER buy them again. When they're brand new they're not bad in the rain, and they did really well in the dry. Also they're louder than ****. They're also not worth 450-500 a set.
Pros
Good dry traction
Decent wet traction when brand new
Cons
Horrible (READ unsafe) wet traction when worn
Extremely loud when worn out
A horrible deal for what you pay for
IMO the bad weighs out the good. My Fuzions are just as good, and at 400 max per set, they're a way better deal.

where do you buy yours? i definately paid under 400 for mine (+ shipping).
they also got great ratings for wet conditions, and even after i had mine for a year or two, they still had great traction in the rain. and with gross camber wear.
spec-2 ratings at tirerack.com
332 surveys submitted 2,483,848 miles reported
..................................dry wet hydro snow cornering steering ride noise tread
Surveyed Averages.....9.1...7.5 ....7.3 ...N/A ....8.9 .......8.8....7.4 ...6.9 ....7.0
Key: Superior (8.6-10) Excellent (6.6-8.5) Good (4.6-6.5) Fair (2.6-4.5) Unacceptable (0-2.5)
the only time i found them remotely unsafe was in the snow, and they were still manageable with the use of even halfway good judgement.

You can't trust the tire ratings on Tire Rack. A good portion of the time, those are people upgrading from the stock All-season crap tires to the UHP tires. Also, like I said, AT FIRST, they have decent wet traction. But people go on there right after they buy their tires. They don't usually wait 10K miles. My initial impression of those tires was that they kicked ***, and they do....AT FIRST. As soon as they wear, they get louder than crap, and can't handle water. Also, I am including the Warranties and Mount+Balance.
I don't know what you consider good wet traction though... Maybe there's not any standing water where you're from. When worn, they hydroplane everywhere in standing water. When it was moist, they were okay, but my Azenis were way better.
Also, I thought these tires were god until I had Azenis and R-Compound tires. Maybe it's all your perspective.

I have the ES100's on my DC4 and they're fine if you like a comfortable ride and good performance. The only thing I dislike is the sidewall isn't as stiff as I like. For most people, the sidewall is stiff enough. Mine like to ride the grooves on the road. Good tires for the money, nonetheless.
I'd personally get Eagle F1 GS-D3's. I have them on my DC2 and they perform incredibly. They're more expensive than the ES100's, but the wet and dry handling characteristics I get out of them are totally worth it. The ride isn't bone-jarring either. However, I've found these tires have given very little warning when losing traction.
FYI: the Eagle F1 GS-D3's I've used are 15" and my ES100's are 16".
I plan on trying out the BFGoodrich g-Force KDW-2's next.
