Default stock internals 6-8psi turbo ls

i am planning on getting the GReedy TD05-18G turbo kit for my 98 ls.Ive heard some stories about people running 10-12psi on stock internals and never having a problem. other people ive talked to say to always to build the block before turboing on the ls because of horror stories of blown motors running 6-8psi.Could this be from not being tunned right, or driver abuse?plz someone with knowledge of ls turbos fill me in. Getting a motor sleeved and new pistons and rods is very expensive to me, this is a daily driver and will be taken to the track every couple of weekends or so.
Thanks

you said it yourself. a poor tune and improper driving and maintainance.

as long as your motor is has good compression and has been routinely upkept, you should have no problems on 6-8 psi.

you will need to get a new clutch

We're running 18-20 psi on stock 91 ls with a Garrett T3 from an old Volvo. The 18G is a little bit bigger than the T3 though.

I'd like to see some dyno numbers on that setup What are the turbinfe sizes of that T3? .42/.48? I used to run the .60/.48 off an SVO Stang and got some pretty respectable numers off 9 psi on a stock B18b.

so you're gonna leave us hanging with your dyno #'s

wow, i bet this thing makes a serious amount of midrange torque, then falls off at like 6k rpms

We have never dynoed the car and probably never will. Power is estimated around 250 to the wheels. We make adjustments to the car at the track after each pass. It's still running an old school afc/fuel pressure regulator setup that we've been using for a couple of years now.

The turbo is a .48 com/.63 turbine T3. Boost holds at 20 and goes down to 18 psi near redline.

Look in my signature if you want to know all the details about the car.

a local tuner has a turbo ls boosted it to 16 psi stock internals. 6-8 psi should be good- no probs. ls's have strong blocks.

Sometimes ou get lucky sometimes you don't. My motor popped at 16 psi, by a well tuner. just depends. 6-8 psi, no problems most likly, but it can blow. anything can blow if it's not done correctly.

Currently running 7psi on stock internals LS. Moving up to 10psi and a nice dyno tuning sesssion in about 6 weeks. I'm limited to about 10 psi due to use of the stock MAP sensor.

My only issue is stretching the OEM head bolts under boost and lifting the head! I'm installing ARP studs and a new head gasket in a few weeks though.

7 psi on stock LS for 3 months now no problems (APR headstuds). Tuned with Uberdata. Will turn up to 11-12 psi in spring + retune. We'll see how that works out.

i would think that ls motors can handle more boost stock than most other honda motors.

<rant>For the 50th time stop reffering to engine failure due to boost levels!!!</rant>

a certain PSI level wont blow a motor....the amount of power it makes will. You could run 32psi on a small *** turbo and make 250whp and your motor could last a long *** time. Get the car tuned....aim for 250-300whp and call it a day.

what he said. air flow (lbs/min or cfm) varies based on turbo size.

yea its just too bad the b16/b18c's motors can handle more power

this is very true...its not hard for a b18c to make 300whp on 10psi...its a little harder to do that with a ls motor.

thats not true. its just as easy for a ls motor to make 300whp it just takes more boost due to the fact that the ls has less comp and a shitty flowing head. The only reason i could see a gsr making more power safer is due to the fact that it has a lower r/s ratio.

The 18g isn't a very large turbo and on 6-8 psi i doubt it'll make enough power to **** anything up, but that's just my opinion
