OT: Type R Desktop I made, some photos I edited (56K...slow)
Recently there have been several topics for Type R desktops, so today I spent about a half hour and made this one. I used my car so I wouldn't get any complaints. Also, the other two pictures are of one of my buddies whos ranked top three in the world in big wave surfing. These two pictures I edited for a big trade show going on right now in San Diego. They were blown up to about 5ft by 4ft. The waves are estimated to be close to 70ft in height and he's a top contender for the Billabong XXL big wave challenge. I have high res copies of both but they are 200mb pictures.... These pictures were taking just before Christmas just off the coast of Maui at a surf spot called Jaws. If your intrested in the local surf report for the islands, you can click on http://www.surfnewsnetwork.com The swell is expected to be 40 feet tomorrow!
At any rate, enjoy.

Bah! Garret is a ******* machine, this guy. I don't know how many videos he's been in. Regardless of the titles he's graced, he's back in Maui ripping up this new swell that we're getting right now (check link). That bottom picture is the edited version...I cut out Derrik Dorner and Laird Hamilton out of the picture. Laird went left on that wave, and Derrik dropped in on Garret. Crazy *******. I would hate to get dropped in on, on a 60ft+ wave. The inside section of Jaws is semi exposed to fully exposed rock/reef and there is no beach. Just a huge cliff line.

Yup, they are towed by wave runners. The wave is too big and fast to paddle into. You have to match the speed of the wave for a couple of seconds in order to catch it. Obviously, you can't match the speed of a wave that is 30+ ft. Didn't Makua Rothman catch one at Jaws that was that size?
