JDM ITR Header install
Do I need the bracket to put this on my gsr? I just ripped the car apart and discovered that the two bolts by the O2 sensor are different on the jdm header. I think I can install and just remove the flange but is that safe?

So I am going to do the install. I was going to do the write up but this guys write up is so good I dont want to have to follow that. See you guys in a few hours
thanks for the info chero. How many trouble free miles on that header?

I was gonna get the same thing till I heard they break easily. been running without it for 2 years now without any problems
Seems to clear the oilpan on my car. My install is all fucked up. My bpipe is leaking, the aftermarket muffler I bought doesnt fit the car and when I started my car up it sounded really bad. Poor thing. Now it is in the garage suffering while I find a 2.5 inch b pipe and a decent muffler. DAMNIT

Aight so after hundred of curse words the exhuast is installed. The car sounds.....different. Unfortunately I have to run it with my stock muffler because the one I bought does not fit. I have a question about the bolts that connect the cat/header. I do not know if I put the spring in right. Take a look
i never bothered with that bracket on my car and its been 2+ yrs w/o any problems..i believe its used to make the header more secure, but between being bolted to the head and the cat/exhuast its not going anywhere

wtf...the flange on your cat is way too small for your 2.5" collector.....get a bigger cat. that's why the springs don't look right; it's because your cat isn't seated on the header like it should. like it's not all the way on.

then you need to do something with the flange. they shouldn't be that far apart.

I agree, they shouldn't be that far apart. The spring bolts should have some give to them, they shouldn't be completely smashed between the flange and the bolt head. Is there a reason that you have 2 donut gaskets (or an extra gasket from something else) between the cat and header flanges? Was the cat too short and you are trying to plug up a leak? Usually, the 2.5" donut when mounted on the header should mate directly to the 2.5" flange on the cat. There shouldn't be much room, then you would be able to get the spring bolts on without a problem. The flange sizes look fine to me, I think the shadows make them appear smaller.

he only has one donut gasket on there, the flange on his cat looks like a 'floating flange' were the portion with the bolts isn't attached directly to the piping coming out of the cat. this is beneficial when you want to get the exact angle of the flanges to be correct. the problem i see is that the flared piping coming from the cat isn't large enough to fit over the donut gasket. the piping may still be 2.5" but it doesnt fit. my brother had the same exact problem as the picture above when he ordered his 2.5" cat from kteller to fit on his jdm itr 4-1.
Interesting, I guess it's possible that the floating flange is a little bit too narrow. I think that, even with that problem, a slightly longer cat might work. Just for information's sake, if you took the donut gasket off of the header, does that cat have enough play that it will move toward the front of the car about an inch or 2? I am just wondering if the floating flange/donut are keeping the 2 from coming closer together or if the header and cat bolts are keeping them from being pulled closer?
It just fits on there like that. I think the opening on the cat is too small to fit over the gasket. everything bolts up fine besides that. So what should I do? Is the car driveable? I dont want **** flying off the car as I drive. Damn I dont want to go back under that car :sigh:
Well, it's certainly driveable if you haven't had any leaks or anything. It seems like you got it working, the only thing I would be concerned about are the spring bolts being so squashed. Since you have a little bit of room left on the bolts, you might want to loosen them a bit so the springs decompress a little. Don't the spring bolts have a little ridge where they can't move past a certain point? I would try backing out the bolt a little bit, if it helps decompress the spring.
Maybe use another set of self-locking nuts to keep them in place. The way they are mounted now, they aren't working well, which could lead to damage if you hit your header on anything - because the bolts won't have any give to them. That's the same reason people use flexpipe on their header/cat. I don't think the cat flange is small enough to cause any loss in terms of exhaust flow/velocity though.
