Default Car shakes when accelerating over 40.

I have a 92 DA.

I've check the engine mounts and replaced the front. So every mount is good. I also check the wheel bearings and it was good. Got the tires balanced. I checked the tie rod it and it was bad and needs replacing.

Is the tie rod the culprit for making the car shake?

After you replace that, you should get the car algined also.

Also could be a cv joint.

Vibration under acceleration is most likely caused by bad inner CV joints.

That doesn't matter, I went through 3 sets of rebuilt axles over the course of a few weeks before finally getting a set that did not vibrate. If you had the axles replaced with rebuilt ones, then I would still suspect one or both of the inner joints is bad.

The "brand new ones" that you buy from Auto Zone or Checker or Napa are remanufactured. There's still a possibility of finding a dead one that's brand spanking new from the factory.

And ditto, I installed one on my DA about six weeks ago (remanufactured) and that night, sure enough, vibration under acceleration. The inner CV joint looked really odd. It took another axle to fix it.

mines was caused by a bent rim. switched back to two steelies in the front, and the shaking stopped.

sounds like inner CV joint to me and I've had first hand experience. We are giving you ideas, its not hard at all to take out an axle and inspect it again. Don't be stubborn and think your axles are good just because they were once "NEW".

if it only vibrates under load (accelerating or maintaining speeds), at high speeds and higher gears, and your whole car is shaking, making a low "whomp whomp whomp" sound... I'll say its busted CV joint on a axle.

Yes I had the same problem on my old Camry, under load the car would start vibrating around 50 mph and then stop once it got past 70. The problem is the channels inside the inner joint are worn and larger than they should be, and so the rollers on the tripod joint has some play, and within a certain speed range you hit a certain resonant frequency that just vibrates the whole car.

And I'm pretty sure that AutoZone does in fact sell 100% brand new axles, I think the brand is GCK, not sure though. However the CCT ones are reman's.

this is a great topic...i have the same problem with my '94 teg for a while now and couldn't figure out what it was. I'd replaced all the mounts and checked the wheels and tires. I can really notice the shaking around 50mph on 5th, then it's smooth after 60mph. I'll have to check my joints now...

This may sound weird.. but I had this problem on my 2003 Matrix, and my co-worker had this problem on his new 2004 Audi 1.8T.

PROBLEM: Crazy Vibration and shaking over 55mph!

RESOLUTION: Extended Below Freezing temps for past week in NYC does not allow ice and slush build up to melt from your wheel wells after recent snowstorm. the heat from the engine only warms the snow/ice enough for the cold draft from driving to refreeze it. I inspected my wheel wells and sure enough they were 100% completely solid & packed with ice. I could not even jab it out with the squeegie handle at the gas station, thats how solid it had refrozen. I had to get my tire iron out the trunk and give it a few hard jabs (being careful of the tire) to just break the ice free from around wheel in fender. Cleaned it all out and problem was solved

If you are in the North East and have experienced this only this week after snow storm... that may be your culprit. I too thought I had a bad CV joint. But once the ice was all cleaned out..... everything was good again.

If you didnt have this effect after cold snowy weather... then check above posts souggestions.

Before you change anything get the wheels balanced, most likely cause of vibrations at certain speeds.

Bact to the original question...check that one of the driveshafts isn't bent. I had the very same problem on a 96 Ford, balanced wheels, checked bushings, joints, brake discs, everything and all it turned out to be was a very slight bend in the l/h shaft. replaced the shaft and completely cured the vibration.
