Anyone ever use one of these intercoolers?

ok ok dont flame its an ebay one but its the only place i can find one with the dimmensions w/o going custom..
anyway this core doesnt look like it would flow real good what do u guys think

you can get a bar and plate from streetimports (a h-t sponcer) for 20 dollars more.
or a little larger tube and fin from him here

Those aren't internally finned, thats why they cheap, and flow so much, but dont cool anything.

on the flipside of that, the johnny racecar intercoolers are heavily internally finned, cool alot but dont flow that well.
im running this intercooler and it seems to be working fine and cooling my air perfect. Also fit perfect on my eg after taking my bumper supports out. If you have any more questions feal free to ask. -Nick

Eh, extruded tube and fin. Not the greatest for heat transfer, but the pressure drop might not be that bad since there are no internal turbulators. I hear ya on not being able to find an off the shelf size for a custom setup, but you might be able to find a bar/plate core and cut it down to size. Actually, now that I think about it, I might have something for you. PM sent.

I assume you are addressing me since that is my quote. If you look closely at the charge side flow of core in the original pics, you will see that there are NO internal turbulators in that core, only extruded chanels. Turbulators are typically brazed onto the tubes/plates depending on what type of construction a particular core is.
Turbulators increase surface area for thermal transfer as well as add turbulance to slow down air flow and promote "scrubbing" of the surface walls. Fins are manufactured in specialized machinery and are available in many configurations such as louvered, lance and offset, and so on. Fin density (number of fins/inch) is the prime criteria since it affects both heat transfer on the ambient side and pressure drop on the charge air side. Note that you CANNOT create an extrusion die that can produce a tube with nearly the surface area of a separate fin assembly brazed onto a tube/plate. There are dimensional limitations on what is possible/practical in regards to manufacturing costs. This is exactly why all reputable cores from heat exchanger manufacturers (Spearco, Garrett/Precision,etc.) utilize bar/plate construction - it is the best way to produce a core that is as efficient as possible for a given volume. Bar/plate construction also cost more, which explains why cheap overseas manufactured cores are extruded, with no internal fins brazed onto the charge air side flow path.

does any one have pics of these internal fins of other cores, i dont know what the difference is between them and the channels in some of these other tubes cores.
i suppose a core thats more effecient per size/ dimensions like tall ect. would be beneficial, as to promote simpler endtank design for good distribution...
I will be looking foward to seeing the results and datalogging of use of the core on the top post. but then again we need something to compare it too.
