Default 98' Honda Prelude front sway bar end link is bent. What caused this to happen? Help

I look under my car recently to change the transimision fluid to discover that my lower front sway bar end link is bent. It is the little piece of link that connects the sway bar to the lower arm. The middle metal rod between the two ends are bent. I don't know how I could have bent my end link. I am replacing the part, but I would like to prevent this from happening again. If anyone has the same experience with a bent front lower end link and has good information, please give me some input. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
