1.8" drop too much for stock struts on a gsr?
i have this friend and she doesnt really know about being a tuner, she's getting some springs (dont know what kind) and they are a 1.8 drop, i told her to get new struts for a damn near 2 inch drop cuz the struts might blow and then the ride will be shitty. i know this pertains to 5th gen accords but now sure with an '01 gsr. thanks.
i think its a hit or miss really. my car rode fine forever on a 1.75" drop from my h&r sport springs. i've also heard of people's struts 'blowing' with a lower drop. she probably will be fine, but she should not expect the struts to last forever (the longer they do, the better though

i got a 94 ls and its got stock struts on neuspeed springs 2 inch drop. it rides fine and i cut the bump stops it bottoms out on speed bumps but thats gonna happen. other than that its awesome
the thing about it tho is struts are mostly for comfort. the struts dont hold the weight its the springs that hold all the weight. ive seen cars that are dropped 3 inches just with springs. they ride like **** but handle good.
The stock struts cannot handle the spring rates, plain and simple. Save money and buy good aftermarket struts that can handle the lower ride and higher spring rates. Dont cheap out. You gotta pay to play. If youre still on the fence about this, go drive on the freeway and look at someone's lowered car bouncing up and down then think if you want it to be like that. Sure it looks good at a stop but the ride will make you regret not doing it right the first time

Struts are not just for comfort. You have not seen any cars with just springs.
Struts are AKA shock absorbers. That's what they do. They prevent the spring from continually bouncing back and forth. Without shocks a car would bounce all over the place and handle horribly.
Back on topic - I dropped by about 2" with Skunk2 adjustables. My stock struts have not blown even with the rather high spring rates of the Skunk2s. I am considering getting either KONI yellows or full coilovers in the future though.

Lets put it this way. You can do it and get away with it. How long and how far, who knows. The idea is however, that you eventually want to upgrade to better struts. If she has the money, do it now and save the trouble. I had neuspeed race springs on my hatch and never got around to gettings struts but the springs were awesome. Unlike other cars i saw or sat in myself that bounced up and down like a boat after some bumps, my car would follow the road so if the road had a bump, my car would dip with it once and be over with. With struts, the ride would have just been smoother and i know what it feels like WITH struts because my friend had the same car with a set. Now with my new integra im definately getting struts within a few months because im short on cash and cant do it right away. Currently enjoying the stock ride.
note: a hatch is probably less prone to bounce(ing) then a longer coupe. still, invest in a good set of springs. Ive ridden in a lot of peoples cars with different springs and some are just ****.

i have Tokico illumina shocks with tokico lowering springs which gives me 1.75 drop. it awesome, i'd recommend this setup for anyone. it gives you awesome handling and its just enough drop to look nice w/o having camber correction problems.
yeah there right. I put some maxspeed coilovers on my car. STOCK height..and it would bottom out cuz of the craptastic spring rates. Now im riding on ground controls and kyb agx shocks and its nice. Not as nice as it was when it was stock becuase its a little siffer, but good ride and drive. Don't go that rought...you will regret it. Save some more...even if it means more time.
i still have stock shocks on my Prelude w/ a 1.75" drop and I think it rides good. it's not too stiff or soft for me. it's been almost 100k miles since my last strut change. i don't intend on changing them until they get too soft on the roads. i don't know about the integras though since i have h&r oe's.

i just said a hatch cuz everyone has one.
well ive seen plenty of accords (since i own one) where people just lower them on stock struts and they'll go out pretty soon. but this girl is like 17 with a brand new gsr....she has the mentality of wanting to race everything, and just getting whatever for her car. since shes getting these springs for free from a friend she doesnt know **** about them so they probably have a shitty *** spring rate. too bad the car went to her thats fa sho. and she told me "after all that stealing, it finally payed off" what a hoe, she was notorious for stealing **** from peoples cars and getting dough for it. its fucked up
