Default ep3 theft?

i've sold the R so i could buy a miata for the track. now i'm looking for a daily driver to lease. so far i've tried: mini S, civic si, mazda 3 hatch, and scion tc. the scion was garbage and the mini will probably be a bit small and too pricey.

i've heard the civic si was theft prone. now i've sold the R, in small part, due to theft threat. is the si really a thief magnet?

You will probably be pretty safe with an EP3 Si.

cops is always filmed in shitty locations, ergo, the shitty cars

i live in central nj. i never had an issue with my R so assume a ep3 will have less demand.

I've heard of 1998-2000 Si getting jacked, but not the new EP3.

i haven't heard of any ep3 theft issues. the only that comes to mind was one broken into for theft of the seats.

a recommendation for you: if you have the miata, sign up for the racer discount at mazdamotorsports.com. as a member, you can get a mazda 3 at s-plan pricing. if the mazda 3 had been availabe when i bought my '03, i would have gone that route, but i'm partial to mazda anyway.

btw, what miata did you get/ looking for?

i've had a '99, but now have a '92. i've tracked both, competed in a spec in a couple of enduros.

Other than the seats, if you leave the car relatively stock I have no idea why a theif would want one.

I almost got my EP3 stolen. They found it off the freeway going to Oakland on a stolen tow truck that just broke down. I guess the thieves left the scene. But at lease I know it's not drivable

Have heard of only a few ep3 stealings and that was in fairly large towns (maybe one in NYC, one in the cali area). They aren't really desireable - as Todd00 said, other than the seats, why would you want one (i.e. suspension/engine parts are better in the RSX-S or TSX).

I personally think the Si makes a great daily driver (for a 2 door) and with a few mods, it's a great little car. And it's fairly cheap - don't pay more than 16.5 or so for a new one. I've been researching the car since March of 2003 and got mine in June 2003, so I figure I would have some insight into whether they are a thieves dream or not (they aren't).

ephatch.com is an ep3-focused board, but beware the idiots/general crap over there. Lots of useful info there, too, it's just buried.

I read a topic about this somewhere on here once i think. Its really hard to steel the ep3's. They have imobilizers on them and i think the only way of steelin them is to have the keys already or get a tow truck... Someone corect me if im wrong.

If they want your car bad, they'll get it. But what are they going to do with ep3?

yea..out here in Long Beach a lot of 98-00 Si's get jacked due to the high demand of their parts (cluster, seats, bumbers, lips, etc etc)

Dont worry, most people dont want to steal our EP3's cause they "look funny" BUT dont be surprised, this is a beautiful car, and a great daily driver. Safe, practical, economical, and most of all, fun especially with a few bolt on parts. I would deff look at the Mini Cooper as well, but yes, for the money, i'd have to go for my good ol' EP3
