Modifying centrifical advance distributor with lighter springs
This is an Old School Honda question:
My '87 CRX Si is an interesting mix of old and new technology. It has electronic fuel injection but the ignition timing is controlled by a distributor that has a combination of vacuumm and centrifical advance mechanisms.
My question concerns replacing the stock springs that regulate how quickly the centrifical advance comes on. I was thinking that if I replaced the stock springs with lighter springs, this would allow the ignition advance to come sooner in the rpm curve. The total amount of ignition advance would not be effected, just the curve of ignition advance would be more steep.
Also, would anyone have a suggestion for where I could source these tiny springs?
Finally, thank you in advance for suggesting that I climb out of the stone age and use a more modern ignition control system. That would be too easy.
Thank you,
Scott

First, are you SURE you want to do this?
Yes, it'll work if you can find the springs. I don't know where...
Go slowly & carefully, it won't take much of a difference in springs before it comes on TOO early.
Making the weights heavier will do exactly the same thing. A glob of JBWeld??
