Paint for intake
hi temp paint or paint made for engines. get a good prime coat on it and let it dry then apply a couple of coats. you can find it at like advanced autoparts, or carquest.
Prep work>paint you use
sand that sucker down with 600grits sandpaper, wash it and dry it, just before you spray primer on it, use alcohol wipes to prep the service. 2-3 light coat of paint should be enough
high temp engine paint from autozone is all you need

This isnt really necessary for an intake, but it's all up to him. I must say though, my valve cover looks hot as **** with a powdercoat. I have a plastic intake though, so what am I saying...Powdercoating will last longer and generally look nicer, but you pay more for it. It's up to you...

600 grit? Not. Use like 1000 grit so you wont have as big of poures. Id use sandable primer 3 coats, then use whatever black hi temp paint you want and use 2 coats of that.
The most important part is that you do it in an environment that is at least 55 degrees or warmer.

Powdercoating is definitely for those who are going for show, but for those of us who simply want the engine bay more stock looking, $2 for a can of black spray paint and a can of primer is more than worth the money. Not to mention painting it yourself cuts back on considerable downtime of not driving the car, or having to put a different intake in for the time being. Having to ship it out to a place, then they do the work, and ship it back, can take well over a week.

40 bucks versus a 5 dollar rattle can; no thanks.
For other stuff though powdercoat can't be beat.

Yeah, especially since my intake was 25 bucks on ebay, I'm not about to spend 40 to make it a different color. But to each his own.

i painted all my intercooler pipes and intake pipe with the same gunmetal duplicolor paint i used to paint my wheels..im impressed on how it came out. it flaked in some spots because i got ahead of myself and didnt degrease it good enough in some spots.
