Resonated vs straight through exhaust
I'm getting new exhaust and getting rid of the cheap, gay, loud exhaust I have now. I already bought a ES tuning S-Series muffler but I need to get a tip to make it the correct length but I don't know the difference between a resonated and a straight through tip. Some places say that resonated means packed to reduce noise but some say the exact opposite and most say that a straight through won't change the noise a muffler makes. So what is the difference in the two kinds?
es ovals arent ment to have tips...it will look like one of wal-marts specials exhaust..
i have a es oval with straight pipping i dont like it at all, low rpm its fine but once you get higher into rpms it will get a buzzing/whiny sound....there all ready deep sounding, but to give it a more deeper tone, put on a resonator and it will keep it quiet and a deeper sound at high rpms

I think he's asking about resonated tips. With a straight through muffler, like the ES, I don't think a resonated tip will make much of a difference. Most muffler shops I've been to will let you try the different types of tips IF you're buying one from them.

I second this. They are just meant to be as is. A resonated tip though, will sound just a tad different than a straight through. I used to have a resonated tip 6-7 years ago, and when the packing fell out, it was a little louder. If you want to keep the quiet/low sound, get a 18" resonator or so put in the b-pipe somewhere. It will quiet it down.

The problem is that I already made new piping for my old exhaust but i'm keeping that. So when I chop off the old muffler the oval won't be long enough to get out from under the bumper so I'm going to put a 5 inch magnaflow tip on to make it long enough. It is straight through, so will that change the way the muffler will sound at all?
