Default USDM vs. JDM

I know you guys are going to say JDM all the way....

but the USDM header allows you to easily replace the stock cat for emissions testing....

JDM you either have to buy an after market cat or replace your stock exhaust manifold and cat everytime you go through emission testing...

Opinions???????

i notice u are from vancouver

with regards to emissions testing, ur car should only need to go thru aircare once every two years... and the word on the street is that aircare will be gone soon too

so either way, i wouldn't worry to much about the convenience of replacing the cat

You can still get a highflow cat that will allow you to pass emissions.

I have a friend that has a DC JDM header....

I know this is a wrong reason for a car nut to think twice about performance upgardes....but he said that he droped down to about 250kms on a tank now after removing the cat.

also.....i've heard high flow cats don't pass emmissions, plus they don't last very long....or so i've heard...

I know a lot of people that use test pipes and still get 350km + per tank

how about your friend's driving style? it's possible that since getting the header, he drives more aggressively and thus has reduced mileage

besides emissions, the main drawbacks i see with test pipes or hi flow cats are the smell, and the longer warmup times. stock cats are designed to help warm up themselves and the engine faster to reduce emissions

as for high flow cats not passing emissions, i think that's probably rare... of course it has to be looked at case by case. if u'r concerned about the longevity of a hi flow cat, just go with a test pipe and swap in ur cat for aircare

Hey Spikey....

What about longevity of the engine???
If you put in a test pipe, your O2 sensor will read lean and richen up the fuel mixture....

isn't it bad to run rich all the time??

Your mileage should INCREASE shouldn't it? Unless your on the throttle all the time. I'm pretty sure that the CEL won't affect how rich or lean your car runs.

1 - i heard that most honda 4cyls can pass emissions w/ not cat? true false?

2- if the cel is on, and you are in safe mode, doesnt the ecu dump a lot of fuel?
