Headunit Turns off when turned up.

When i turn up the volume on my friends alpine HU, it turns off, then comes back on. today, i turned it up a bit, and it turned off, then back on, then off and didnt turn back on. we checked the fuse, and its still good, and i tried to reset it, but nothing is getting power. the Clock reset itself also. anybody know what could be wrong?
