if it was welded in then it's there to stay and even if it isn't i wouldn't want to yank it out if i was you. just my $0.02
why do you want it gone so bad?

i have a few questions about block gaurd.
When you have a closed deck, does that just mean you have a block gaurd?
also wouldnt bg just create more heat?
Are block gaurds pointless if the block has been sleeved?
and what does honing a block mean?
What does having a block decked mean?

sorry to ask on this thread, but it looked like its over with anyway, and i didnt want to start my own over a couple questions.

1..closed deck can mean you have a blockguard although some motors came stock with a cast closed deck.

2. A blockguard if installed peoperly will be fine and not create any problems

3. IMO a blockguard is not necessary if the block has been sleeved

4. Honing the block is the process of applying a crooshatch pattern to the cylinder walls. This helps the rings form a good seal when they seat against the cylinder walls.

5. Decking a block is the process by which the block surface that mates with the head is machined level.

Hope this helps.

A correctly installed blockguard is good insurance for a motor. The problem is some people just hammer the guard in,and when they do that it moves the cylinder walls. The proper install is to sand it a little so it slides on.
