Default temp gauge problem

My ride has been starting to overheat in traffic. I notice that when I start driving again that the temp guage moves back to normal. The other deal is that sometimes my fuel gauge and temp guage both get really low after I start moving again. What the hell is that all about?

your temp gauge isn't broken. it's probably your radiator fan. When your car is sitting in traffic, it needs the fan to blow on the radiator. If it's not working, then your going to overheat. The reason it goes down when your moving is because there is cool air getting blown on your radiator. As for the fuel gauge, all the cars I've ever driven have had a fuel gauge that fluctuates when you start moving because the gas is sloshing around when you get going.

I understand that the fan is probably the main problem here. But, the gas gauge has always been very stable, not like a bobber floating around, it seems to be functioning with the temp gauge sometimes. Both of the gauges move smoothly. am I making any sense?

Before I forget, isnt there a switch that controls the fan, that I can test with the codes?
