Default Ride Quality in del Sols

Is it just me or do the sols ride quality suck. My current setup is 205/40/r16, progress springs, itr rear sway and tokico illuminas (setting 3). The ride and road noise is killing me. could it just be my tires? 40 series? Anyone with del sols have the same prob? Anyone with 40 series tires have the same prob?

you completely replaced the suspension and wheel/tire combo, and your complaining about the car? You added very stiff suspension, low profile tires, and firm shocks, not to mention sporty (noisey) tires... Of coarse it isn't going to ride nice, it is a sports suspension....

True. Tires are probably were the noise is coming from. If the ride is also bothering you, I suggest you look into buy some Eibach springs. They ride more like stock.

i KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!!! its drives me crzy....untill i fixed it....go to lowes and get the 1/4 in insilating tape and run it across the underside of your top. when you latch it back down it eliminated the roof rattle. Dynamatted my door panels and boght a TIEN SS suspension. Even though im still ridin on 40's it rides like a cadillac. DO IT NOW! its worth it.

when i went from 16" rotas wrapped in nitto nt450's to steelies with azenis, the ride was much quieter, very smooth and the car didnt shake/rattle at all. this was in a civic though but i doubt its that much of a difference

there's a decent amount of difference, del sol is a lot louder, I'm only slightly lowered (1.3 inches or something like that), but the ride can be harsh on my friends. I think what just about every driver of a convertible or targa needs to realize is that the ride quality suffers in the winter. I've gone from Mustang convertible to Del Sol Targa and the story remains the same, all squeaky and annoying in the winter, to take the top off/down in the spring/summer and enjoy the ride.

most targa/convertable cars are noisey. I don't think there is much you can do to eliminate the road noise...

I have a Delsol with H&R racing springs, swaybars, adjustable shocks, and strut braces riding on seventeen inch wheels. Besides the stiff *** ride, my car is very quite inside. I placed sound deadening material on the floor and in the trunk. Worked wonders. That's about the only way you are going to get a quite ride without going to smaller wheels with larger tires, or softening up the suspension.

About the ride quality. A few people have already said it. You have your car set up to take a corner at 80. It's going to be a little uncomfortable. But ride quality must be sacrificed if you want the handling.

I guess its not so much the stiffness, its the harsh banging (lol) i get when i hit a bump. Its so bad that the shock penetrates(lol) the entire car. I definitely think its from the 40 series tires though. Dont get me wrong I love the stiff ride, but I wish it didnt have the harshness.

Then go back to a stock suspension and tires. Can't have it both ways.

Progress springs should have a smooth ride...I have them on my 00 Si with tokico Illuminas on setting 4/5 and its comfortable for me.

LOL.. I know what you mean. The same thing happens to me. I set my shocks to five. You get tossed around a bit at low speeds, but it keeps the car from bottoming out.

The 40s on your car are most definitely causing the harsh sounds your hearing. Theres not much tire to absorb those bumps. The car ends up taking the brunt of the dips and pot holes. The only thing I can suggest is to go to a softer shock setup. The will help a great deal.

I've went as far as replacing all the stock rubber in my sol with polyurethane bushings. I personaly think it rides like an oversized go cart because of it's almost racy feel you get with the stiff suspension. It's definaly not a car for everyone, just a true sports car entusiast. I installed a system to deal with the road noise but I still love to run with the top off just listening to the muffler buzz.

The noise is probably coming from your tires. Try 50 series. If the targa top makes a rattling noise what you could do is lubricate the rubber seals. And if your ride is really bouncy or bumpy try going for eibach springs like someone mentioned above. Progressive springs are good but if they aren't riding smooth like jeffk182's says in his civic si then it's probably because your car is heavier than his.
